I saw this in the shops and liked the idea of the tracklist, which is kind of jazzy chillout music, i had no idea i was about to uncover some absolutely great artists and hidden gems of music as well.

Jamie Cullum's take on Radiohead's "High & Dry" is amazing, after hearing it i looked further and found he's the upcoming star of modern jazz, great voice and a great version. Beyond that it's a journey from the relative calm of St Germain through Terry Callier to the more uptempo calm of Gotan Project, Tom & Joyce (what an opening) and Masters At Work.

Disc 2 goes back in time to Sergio Mendes, Bobby Womack, Serge Gainsbourg and Ella Fitzgerald, and blends them perfectly with great soul from Omar, Chaka Khan and Karen Lane.

One cd of jazzy chillout, one cd of soulful classics.

Can't recommend it highly enough. Absolutely brilliant.

A great 2 disc CD, with lots of tunes some of which will will have heard before, but may never have been able to put a name to. Makes a great party album.

Ice Cool..... 29 Sep 2003
Format:Audio CD
This compilation is full of wicked tunes! You can see the list of the artists on this very page! Some of the songs are stunning especially PICK UP THE PIECES and the Quincy Jones amongst others. However, many of the pieces seem very out of place especially Norah Jones. Although I like her music it doesn't feel correct on such an upbeat collection. I believe that this compilation was intended to be funky and cool, the Royksopp tune helps this. However, one wonderes what that type of music is doing on the album?

However, despite the vague genre linings of jazz, the tunes are good, even if they dont belong as a group. Some favoutites are the lemonjelly tune and the beautiful CALIFORNIA DREAMIN'.

Chill.....
