Biography

Oscar Peterson was a star in Canada, his homeland, before Norman Granz brought him to this country in 1949 for a surprise debut at Carnegie Hall. He had his own Canadian Broadcasting Corporation radio program when he was fourteen. 5.0 out of 5 stars Oscar plays it soft. 6 Dec 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The title says it all. Round midnight. Perfect time to play it. Winding down after a hectic day, background to a dinner party, seduction with the lights low. Or just gazing into the fire with a single malt. Perfect.
Oscar plays it cool throughout both as a trio and a quartet, accompanied by top flight musicians. Guitarists Herb Ellis/ Barney Kessler and a link between the trios of 'King Cole' and Oscar Peterson, Irving Ashby. Ed Thigpen the brush virtuoso and on two tracks the vibraphone of Milt Jackson. Throughout the CD the discrete bass of Ray Brown provides a subtle heartbeat. Recommended.
However; ignore the cover shown on Amazon which shows Lester Young. He is NOT on the CD. The cover you will receive is without Lester Young on the front.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great stuff! 18 July 2014
By Office Rat - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Hard to believe there are no reviews for this yet. This is a terrific compilation of Oscar's mellow side from the early 50's through the early 70's. He's accompanied on almost all the cuts by Ray Brown on bass, and on most of the cuts by Ed Thigpen on drums. A few cuts feature other notables such as Milt Jackson (vibes), Herb Ellis (guitar) and Barney Kessel (guitar). Highly recommended.
