James Taylor has written an excellent guide, which is a good starting point for would be jazz pianists, and also acts as a good introduction to jazz harmony.James encourages the student to experiment from the outset,and also explains harmony with considerable clarity. This book requires the student to possess basic keyboard skills, and is ideal for any pianist who wishes to learn more about the art of jazz piano.
The book will also be of great benefit to any melody instrument( sax etc) who wishes to learn more about jazz harmony,including modes and such mysteries as tritone substitution. JT is a terrific pianist whom I love gigging with and I'm pleased he is imparting his musical wisdom to the world! Buy this and have fun!!

I accidentally found this book when I was looking for one to teach me how to play Jazz from scratch. I wanted fast results which means I needed a book that gets straight to the point as quickly as possible. In other words, I didn't want to learn a whole boat load of irrelevant music theory stuff that fills most of these types of books.

I never really expected to find anything like this book! First, it's actually readable. In plain English it explains how to find your way around the keyboard without using traditional music notation to slow me down. The first few concepts mentioned in lesson one took my playing to a whole new level in less than an hour. The author is as an outstanding teacher.

His YouTube lessons makes it even easier! http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCl8Fukt04sBO1wuYO8aafCw

I'm absolutely thrilled to own this book and I can't wait to learn everything in it!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! AAA+++

Fantastic book, I have started learning all my jazz piano skills and knowledge!
Many jazz pianists find it hard to work with music and this book, is brilliant because it gives you step by step written guidence which is fantastic for learning.
I would advise all beginner to expert piano players to read this book and thus reading it you will explore some great jazz piano skills whilst having an enormous amount of fun!
Brilliant book and buy!!

This is the book I have been waiting for - and now it's here. I cannot believe it. A book
I can understand because it's written in plain English, is informative and quite frankly -
a joy to read.
Learning to play the piano was a chore - I was not naturally gifted - but
I knew all those years ago that I wanted to play jazz - and now I am making progress -
and it is all thanks to James. Here is a music expert who clearly has a way with words and
knows what would-be jazz musicians want. A big THANK YOU to James Taylor.
