Although listed as Jazz big band this is more in the prog rock genre than most jazz nowadays.
"Urban Tribes (introduction)" is the opening track, with its ethereal, slightly celtic feel, which soon becomes more upbeat.
"Seelenbaumien"starts of in a fery pretty acoustic mood, then with Crimsonsesque overtones developes very subtley, into a tour de force in,in a word ,gorgious.
"Space trip--the day we landed" was the first track that i heard from this album,on the rather excellent "Jazz FM" show "The Cutting edge" and is a mixture of electronics and jazz, the voca ls remind me of prog rock pioneers "Caravan",a long and meandering track, that is wonderfully inventive.
"High Voltage" follows next, again aseven minute track, which follows a more traditional line, whilst still maintaining its progressive integrity.
"Reve Africain" follows next and is 18 minutes long, featuring the vocals of Hadja kouyate, who sounds like Youssou N'dour, wonderfully evocotive.
""Coming home" the final track is 12 minutes of pure joy and excellence, starting with an amazing bass solo, followed by a light hearted flute solo
This is an example of just haow good the ACT label has become, where like ECM.the music, production and sleeve design, combine to make the whole process special.
