Book Description

Oct 1999
Jay & Silent Bob, the politically incorrect, slacker philosophers, co-stars of Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and the upcoming Dogma, feature in their own incredible comic book saga, written by acclaimed movie director Kevin Smith. In a tale that bridges the time between Chasing Amy and Kevin Smith's eagerly awaited new movie, Dogma, Jay & Silent Bob strike out in search of the idyllic paradise of John Hughes' movies. Along the way, they run into has-been actors, porn stars and a super-intelligent monkey, all the while offending public decency! Warning: Adults Only

About the Author

Kevin Smith sold his comic book collection to func Clerks, and after the film became a huge hit he was able to buy them back. One of the most successful and critically independent film-makers of recent years, Smith has also written and directed Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma and the forthcoming Jay and Silent Bob. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Own For Lovers Of Kevin Smiths Work 6 Oct 2001
Format:Paperback
Chasing dogma begins with the twosome of Jay and Silent Bob laying low in downtown New Jersey, a few months after the film "Mallrats" took place, the book follows them on a merry journey through the antics of "Chasing Amy" (the third film in Smiths 'New Jersey Trilogy') through to the parking lot that sees them into the film "Dogma".
This book is excellently drawn, and the storyline (written by Kevin Smith) features all the aspects you'd expect from Jay and silent Bob; drugs, porn, refugee monkeys, the works.
This book isn't suitable for those that are easily offended by drugs, sex and bad language, but i would certainly recommend this book to those that are fans of Jay and silent Bob, especially if they've seen the films, although even without that background, it's still a great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Kevin Smith freaks! 5 April 2002
Format:Paperback
With this comic, you accompany Jay and Silent Bob on their journey from Mallrats to Dogma via the cafe scene in Chasing Amy. Reading the book, you find yourself smiling at finding out useless information, like where Jay and Silent Bob got their threads for Dogma, what the deal was with Susanne from the Mallrats credits, and how Jay and Silent Bob came to meet Beth outside the abortion clinic. At this point, note that if you have not seen any of Kevin Smiths' landmark releases. "Mallrats" "Chasing Amy" or "Dogma" then my review will leave you highly confused - watch the films before getting thic comic. If you don't, while you might enjoy it, you will not reap the full benefits of Smiths' skill. I also highly recommend the "Clerks" comic books.

For anyone who's a fan of Kevin Smith's films, this is a treat and a half. Plotting Jay and Silent Bob's (Smith's recurring characters) adventures, it links Mallrats, Clerks, Chasing Amy and Dogma almost seemlessly. And if you love Smith's crude one liners and comic situations, you'll adore what happens in this book.
The art is great too, capturing the feel and look of Smith's films, as well as excellent characters of the actors themselves. The concept itself may phase a few people, it's really one for the fans. Unless you've seen one or more of his films, you probably won't get much from this book.
The stories contained in the book are great though - Jay and Silent Bob manage to get involved with fights, John Hughes movies, porn starlets and fugative orangutangs. What sets this book apart, however, is the fact it is not just a film tie in. You feel that these stories were always part of the narrative that links all of Smith's films, and that is probably the case.
If you're a fan it's a must buy.
