Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Teacher Review

Jasper's Beanstalk introduces readers to the character of Jasper who is determined to grow a beanstalk. He plants the bean and tends to it carefully each day. Finally, he gets fed up of waiting for it to grow and digs up the bean and throws it away. Readers will probably guess what happens at the end.

Jasper's Beanstalk is a picture book that will be thoroughly enjoyed by young readers. This is a simple text that is very well laid out. The clear illustrations will allow early readers to use picture cues to help them read the text. The story takes place over the course of a week, so this book would be good to use to consolidate the days of the week. An excellent book to read children are growing plants as part of their Science curriculum at school. There is also a nice link with Jack and the Beanstalk at the end of the story.

This book would be enjoyed by children aged 4-6. --Amanda York --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Review

Stunningly simple... this book will encourage first steps in reading alone.

(Practical Parenting )

A charming tale, with extra-large type, that touches on the topic of the cycles of nature and how things grow, with a gentle moral of how everything - including giant beanstalks - come to he who waits

(Junior )

On Just Like Jasper: Wondefully simple . . . delightfully drawn. (Mother )

One of the most effective plot-lines of the year. (Books for Your Children )

Jasper is a loveable cat and you really feel for him when he struggles with his beanstalk. The illustrations are wonderful. A delightful book for children.

A favourite 8 Nov 2008
Format:Paperback
My 3 year old brought this book home from Nursery when they were learning about plants earlier this year. We loved it so much that I bought it for her sister's birthday.

My 3 youngest children aged 2-5 all really enjoy the book as do myself and my husband. The story goes through the week as Jasper tries to grow a beanstalk.

So good that I read it to my Year 1 class (age 6) when we grew plants ourselves.

One of the best books I have ever bought (and we have hundreds).

the black and white cat......and a bean he finds......
on Monday.
On Tuesday he decides to plant it.
On Wednesday he decides to water it.......

And so the story continues introducing the rest of the days of the week and some more typical gardening jobs, along with the odd night-time chore!

However, after one job too far.......all is not quite as one might expect.......but, ah well,...time will surely tell?

A busy Jasper adorns the cover of this paperback measuring in around 21.75 cm x 23.75 cm, with 24 high quality pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Clearly written large text, with superb illustrations throughout offering extra scope for simple observation games.
Jasper's facial expressions for the large part convey a happy or pensive cat......but there is a bit of a dejected face, too.......(but not for long!)
Things start to happen when you least expect it.......and then..........success!

A simple tale, loosely based on the original which older children can identify with.
For the youngest ones it is easy to read out aloud and keep the attention whilst also looking out for 'robin' who makes an appearance every so often, along with the odd worm or two!

Look out for Just Like Jasper, by the same authors, too!
