Review

'I really wish Sita had been writing when I was growing up as this beautiful heartfelt book explores so eloquently the need to find your history in order to find yourself' Meera Syal

'Sometimes second books can be disappointing. This one most certainly isn't. In fact, I think it's even better than the first. Sita's skill lies in making her reader really feel that intimate tug and pull of family relationships as well as the confusing ups and downs of teenage love, and in this book she also shows us facets of India not often seen in children's books' Lucy Coates scribblecitycentral.blogspot.com

Sita's debut novel, Artichoke Hearts, won the 2011 Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize and has been longlisted for the Carnegie Medal. It has also been shortlisted for the Redbridge Children's Book Award, the Berkshire Book Award, the Romantic Novel Award (young adult category), Peters Book of the Year, the Fabulous Awards for Books and the Ealing Readers Award.

'A thoughtful, tender and uplifting novel, which continues the story of Mira, now two years older, as she negotiates challenging new experiences, the complexities of family and friendship, and the uncertainty of teenage love' Booktrust

‘It's like unpeeling the petals of a flower, smelling, touching, feeling - and yet with a fine thread of a plotline winding its way through, keeping the tension and making one want to read on and on to know what happens’ Jamila Gavin

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Read :-) 5 April 2012
Format:Paperback
It was such good escapism, and was so much better (for me) than Artichoke Hearts because Mira was older and I could connect with her better. Also she was experiencing something I've experienced (admittedly not in the same country but I would love to visit India one day) and I felt like I understood her and just wanted to hug her the whole time. Brilliant read, great characters and a flowing plot written in a wonderful style. Just what I needed to freshen my brain from all that revision!

4.0 out of 5 stars really good 1 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I really liked this book because it had a really good plot and I liked the characters. I like books written in the first person because u et sucked into the story. I would recommend this book to someone between the ages of 11 and 17. If u want to read this book then I would recommend u read the first book in the series (artichoke hearts) first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nicely written 30 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I loved this book it had a great plot and sita had created a lot of suspense and tension in the atmosphere. I wish there is another book to this series as I would really like to see what happens and how Mira and jide go on or break up. It's a beautifully written book and would r we commend it to anyone. The depth of detail put in was amazing I could really picture I try in my head and seemed like a movie. I think that Jasmine skies is f as fantastically written but I like artichoke hearts because of the story ending as I am the kind of person who only gets satisfied with a book one The ending is happy enough. Like in the hunger games I had to read the next two immediately as I had to see what was going to happen next until katniss could live peace fully without any problems and you knew about every thing about her life ahead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Artichoke Hearts 19 Dec 2012
By Mrs. K. A. Wheatley TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback
I loved the prequel to this book, Artichoke Hearts and was fascinated to see what the author would do to further Mira's story. Where Artichoke Hearts is touching and intense, spiritual and thoughtful I thought that Jasmine Skies was rather superficial and disappointing. It had elements of what made Artichoke Hearts so compelling. The characters are well drawn and the descriptions of Mira's experiences are beautifully written, but it did not quite work. I think it could have been a much better book if it had been a little longer. It felt rushed and unsatisfactory in places. I didn't really get much of a sense of what made Mira's cousin tick. I did not get much of a sense of the spiritual in this book, except in the odd, fleeting moment. I really think these elements could have been expanded to make it a much more satisfying book.

It also seemed to end fairly abruptly. I hope this is because the author will continue to write about Mira and her life. I did enjoy both books, but there needs to be more detail to make them really work.

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Jasmine Skies' by Sita Brahmachari 25 May 2012
Format:Paperback
Colourful, fragrant and delicious! Such a powerful reminder of the sensory world, and of the need to be mindful of it all. And although it's intended for young adults (rather than an older, adult market) it has something universally important to say about family ties, about heritage, about powerful emotion, and about keeping these things alive. A really beautiful book!

I was a bit disappointed with this book because as it was the sequel to Artichoke hearts- a book I really enjoyed- I found Jasmine skies was lacking a good storyline.
