It was only when I was listening to this one for the second time that I realised it was essentially just Heather and a guitar, which demonstrates how much of the strength of her music lies in her words, her ululating voice and her expression. In fact, when the more poppy "Always Christmas" comes in at the end, the sudden intrusion of instrumentation is almost vulgar! :)
I've found some of her albums to have little impact ("South", for instance, was light and forgettable), but when she's being angsty and pained, as on "Oyster" and "Redbird", she's an enthralling and distinctive talent. This album tends to the right end of her spectrum and with repeat plays it's only been growing on me.
