After reading Caleb (see my review), I didn't think I would buy another SM book, as since she's gotten more 'respectable' i.e. mainstream=more money, she's gotten boring. I didn't therefore buy this one, but instead saw it sitting on a shelf at my local library, having been there for 3 months, without even one person having borrowed it yet. I wish I hadn't been the first person to do so, as this was so dire that in three attempts, I could not get past page 85 - and by then, nothing much had happened. I am therefore basing this book on the 85 pages that I forced myself to read.
This book was boring: boring female, who like Allie in 'Caleb' likes to vomit, but this time not on guys who try to force themselves on her, but after 'feeding' i.e. after ingesting blood, which I kind of got. However, the way in which she was described made her sound like a scrawny chicken with no sex appeal, so why Jared felt so protective of her, when she clearly did not appreciate his efforts to save her from rape and possible death by the baddies known as Sanctuary (?) - I'd have just left her to her own devices. There wasn't much of a description of Jared, and in fact, Allie's description of being feisty and sharp with a sense of humour (really? Not from what I remember - she didn't have a sense of humour, but liked exaggerating and jumping to conclusions in between fending of multiple attempted-rapes and vomiting in the would-be rapists' mouths) lets us know more about her than Jared, and she's only a minor character in the book.
I couldn't bring myself to finish it, and I am not suprised that I am the first person to review this on amazon.co.uk, and that it can be obtained USED, LIKE NEW at about 25% of the RRP. Save your money and do not bother with this slow-moving, boring book full of lengthy, unnecessary winding and long-winded descriptions (of the why-use-two-words-when-twenty-will-do variety) and cryptic, silly dialogue.
