Product Description

Secret and X-Plane aircraft projects remain highly popular with historians, enthusiasts, modellers and the flight sim community. Surprisingly, secret Japanese planes of World War 2 remain an area which has been largely ignored due to scarcity of information. They do, however, have a large base of interest as unlike the majority of secret Luftwaffe programs that were resigned to the drawing board, the vast number of aircraft featured within this book actually flew or were in development. The book is divided into two sections dedicated to the two air forces of the IJA and IJN, with over 42 aircraft examined, each with its history, variants, performance, and any combat records laid out in an easy to read fashion. Much information about their secret technical exchanges with the Luftwaffe throughout the war is also uncovered. This is beautifully complimented by stunning colour renditions of the aircraft in combat and colour profiles of genuine markings and camouflage. Notable emphasis is placed upon the transonic rammer aircraft, strategic long-range bombers, and the ways in which the Japanese adapted German technology to their needs, particularly the Me262 and Me 163 Komet. Secret Japanese armaments are also covered in detail, with information on guided missiles, aerial rockets, and unique bombs. It is a gripping read for aviation and military enthusiasts around the world!

When one thinks of the Japanese aircraft of World War 2, one almost always thinks of Zero fighters and the Kamikaze. While these are the most high profile of Japan's aviation war effort there was a secret war effort going on with equal intensity. The Japanese realised rather belatedly that a new kind of air war was emerging and that a new approach had to be instigated.

This book shows that there were Japanese engineers and designers who were ready and capable of taking on the role of making these new designs a reality and also that the Germans furnished Japan with a whole array of new technology including rockets and jets. The designs range from training aircraft to long range heavy bombers. The book includes lavish illustrations and technical data with the fullest histories available. I think it deserves full marks.

Wonderfull book 5 Nov 2010
Format:Hardcover
This book should find its way into the library of all the avion enthusiasts who like airplanes and their development. It describes the development of the 'secret' Japanese airplanes in detail. There are many beautifull colour drawings and excellent descriptions of the actual development process. It is a real pleasure reading it!

SOOOOO interesting! 30 Oct 2011
Format:Hardcover
Such an interesting book with many photos/drawings previously unavailable. Well presented and written it is a facinating story of what the Japanese could have produced in the later part of the Second World War.
