I hesitated to buy this due to some unfavourable reviews, but have found the techniques delightful. I especially appreciate the way a whole quilted piece can be made in the hand; with a "how was this done?" effect (both front and reverse sides), when the pieces are combined.

I agree about the samples being overly large, but these are easily adapted to a finer personal choice of fabrics and scale.

I do criticise the careless instructions. The anemone pattern was not made clear at all!

The book needs revision eventually, but I'm glad I have it to work from.

This is a good book spoiled by poor editing. The idea of patchwork 'origami' is novel and interesting. The projects are well illustrated and appealing but the written instructions are among the worst I have come across. I looked at the simplest project for a cushion cover. Far from shedding any light on the subject the instructions were a hurdle to be overcome. It is only worth buying if you are confident that you can sort out the technical points for yourself.

Really liked the projects, paticularly the Attic Window and the Octagonal panes. But the templates for the first were wrong, the seam allowance had been added twice to one side of the triangles. As for the octagons, an octagon is a regular shape with 8 equal sides, not a square with the corners cut off! With a bit of thought and experience and some knowledge of Maths it is possible to work out how to achieve good results, but a beginner would be put off. That's a pity, because I'm sure the techniques are worth exploring.

I was expecting a lot more from this book. It didn't really add anything to my knowledge. The instructions are poor and the finished articles are large and clumsy rather than the delicate delights I have come to expect from Japanese techniques.

I wanted to make a bag from a pattern featuring this type of patchwork. I find the technique very difficult. Even with this very good book, I am struggling; without it I would get nowhere.
