Janet Wilson is an international lecturer in the field of Textiles. She has lectured in higher education in the UK for over 25 years and has taught training courses for the clothing and retail industry since 1992. She has worked as a textile designer in the UK and Switzerland and lectures on the subjects of: woven fabrics, warp-knitted fabrics, weft-knitted fabrics, printed and dyed textiles, textile finishing, textile fibres and textile testing and quality.
Her book, Classic and Modern Fabrics: The Complete Illustrated Sourcebook, published in 2010, is a comprehensive, illustrated A-Z reference book describing all the major fabrics in circulation today. There are 320 pages with 834 colour illustrations. Over 600 fabrics are described from classic tweeds to state-of-the-art nanomaterials.
Each entry includes an outline of the fabrics defining characteristics, construction details, and a photograph to aid recognition. Some background history and information on typical end uses have also been provided. There is an extensive cross-referencing system and a thorough glossary and bibliography.
