39 submarine types, 18 carrier types, 5 cruiser types, 42 destroyer types, 71 frigate types, 28 corvette types, 58 'patrol forces', 21 'amphibious forces' and 16 'mine warfare forces'; plus a few general images to indicate terms, a glossary of abbreviations, and an index.
There is a lot of info here, on the navies of the world; from single-ship classes like the UK's Ocean, to multi-ship classes like the 39 active patrol boats of the 'La Combattante II' class servig with Chile, Egypt, Georgia, Greece and Iran.
For each entry you get specs on displacement, size, speed, range, much detail on armament and electronics, which navies and under which names/designations; plus some notes on how-to-recognize features (lattice mast/high bow with continuous maindeck/seawolf SAM 6-barrel launcher in B mounting position are some examples); a colour photograph and a small silhouette. No data on year of build, no way of seeing which navy has which ships, but it does what it says: it will help you recognize warships. A few 'artist impressions' but mostly crips and clear photographs. The silhouettes are tiny and could have been bigger quite easily, what with the amount of white space on most pages! The back cover tells us it contains 'detailed line drawings' - but that must refer to four pages of terms-with-illustrations at the beginning.
Still, the best available at the moment with world-wide coverage. No experimentals like the Seafighter, but a good overview of serving ships.
