As the title says beautiful voice, beautiful girl. Jane Monheit is definitely a coming jazz vocal star. She sings as well as any jazz vocalist of today, and has surrounded herself with first class musicians. The only critisism I can make is the annoying bobbing up & down she seems to think helps her to "emote" I hope she grows out of this,perhaps watching videos of Ella or Peggy Lee would show her that it isn't needed. The band & strings are great propelled along by Ron Carter on Bass. Top Marks.

Jane's amazing voice, stellar ensemble, brilliant production, and varied repertoire make this DVD a winner. The voice: melodic, crisp, smooth, clear, extemporaneous (but not too much so). Jazzy in a bright/light way similar (but not yet as great as) that of Ella Fitzgerald; not husky/breathy like that of a Nora Jones. Only "musical error" (off-key for an instant) is in her heart-wrenching rendition of "Love Has No Pride". "Over the Rainbow" is one of the best covers done.

Musicians: excellent, particularly the pianist. Strings also great. Production: sound quality in 5.1 is as good and real-life as any DVD I've heard, and video quality on a 50" screen is also great for a live performance. Agree with previous reviewer - ditch the make-up artist: the glitter is all over the place and distracting. Repertoire is varied from show-tune standards to jazz to Brazilian. Only other criticism is that her style is a bit melodramatic/affected -- but she's young.

Jane Monheit's voice to me is truly magnificient, and awe inspiring - for such a young woman. Jane Monheit Live at the Rainbow Room, is a truly remarkable DVD.. worth every penny. The setting for the concert is sumptous, the musicians playing with Jane Monheit complement her voice - making her a Jazz legend in the making. I cannot recommend this DVD enough, if you love really great music, and in particular love Jazz then this is the DVD for you - believe me it's sensational. Worth twice the price - buy it and enjoy it forever I will. A simply wonderful buy.
