I received my copy a couple of days ago and have already designed and printed 2 small designs for christmas decorations. Overall, for the price the design package is not bad and fairly easy to use. There is a large canvas and you can switch between views of colour blocks, black and white chart with symbols and the stitched design on fabric which is helpful (especially if you are using white thread which doesn't show up on the colour block view). There are lots of stitches to choose from, a large selection of threads/fabrics and everything is easily printed out in a size of your choice.
However, there are a couple of flaws when using the programme to draw you own designs. Firstly, the undo function seems a little random. Sometimes it doesn't undo anything (eg if you have added individual cross stitches the function doesn't seem to work so you have to go through and delete them yourself) while other times it undoes far more than you want (undoing the last 5 or 6 actions you've done thus losing work you didn't want to) but there doesn't seem to be any way of knowing how much is going to be undone. Therefore frequent saving is recommended (and in fact in the introduction to the programme itself it recommends saving the design under a different name so that if it goes wrong you still have the old version!). If you have a small design or a design made up of lots of small parts I'd recommend copying parts of it to a separate place on the same canvas so that you have a second copy to hand in case anything goes wrong. These can then be deleted once you've finished.
Secondly, the delete function doesn't seem to work on backstitches so you have to go back over the stitches (whilst you still have the backstitch function on and the correct thread colour selected) to remove them. This is quite fiddly and took me a while to work it out as it doesn't seem to be very intuitive to me.
However, for such a cheap programme I wouldn't expect everything to be perfect and I'm sure I'll get used to working around the problems. I wouldn't recommend the programme to anyone who designs patterns seriously as the little problems may drive you mad, but for creating simple patterns at home it is very easy to use.

Having looked for quite some time, I accidentally found a reference to this programme on another website. Having looked at quite a few programmes for free-hand embroidery that were far more expensive, I decided to give this a try. What a bargain! I am absolutely thrilled with it and can't wait to get designing my own embroidery. Not only can you do cross stitch, but also, tapestry, blackstitch, and suitable for making silk embroidery patterns too! Importing photos to make your own pictures is a great bonus.

This is a very easy programme to learn. When you have installed the programme you only need to click on to it and it opens instantly - many other cross stitch programmes need time to load, need to work from a CD continually installed, and can be annoying when trying to access pictures. You can import pictures of your own to use with this programme, though for convenience I recommend that you resize them in another programme to retain the smaller details. Many other cross stitch programmes do not have such a variety of functions. With only a click of the mouse you can enlarge your view of the stitch charts and working charts. At the bottom of the screen you have ALL the colours to choose from, at a click you can change your threads (from DMC to Anchor etc, and it is simple to swap and merge colours whereas other programmes do not allow the same. One of the best functions is the Magic Wand which will delete the background around your motif - other programmes will only delete a colour - then, by simply selecting your motif you can create backstitch in colours, black or white, either between colours or only around the outside of your motif. This programme allows you to save your motifs in a separate file which is easy to access. A cool programme - recommend to all.
The only upgrade from using a Jane Greenoff programme is to go for a professional programme which costs over $[...].
