I am a great fan of Jane Fonda and her many workouts as she always puts you through a very intense programme whilst making it look oh so easy!
In the 70's I was able to 'go for the burn' but now I am 60 I wanted something a little lighter. I had also put on quite a bit of weight due to a knee problem which prohibited any form of exercise and was not very inspired by all the 'younger' looking exercise DVD's from numerous celebrities that are out there.
I was delighted when Jane's new Fitness and Strong DVD hit the shelves, at last something I was familiar with and as she is now 72 I knew she would be merciful this time round!
And yes she is as pleasant as always whilst encouraging you all the way.No floor work or aerobic exercises but she does recommend Tai Chi and Pilates as alternatives or extras.
There are 2 exercises to follow, one is for a mild workout of about 20 mins whilst the other is more intense at about 30 mins. Both incorporate a chair, small weights and a towel and really are made for the 'older' generation. This DVD is about keeping fit, improving balance and keeping muscles loose.I found I could do these quite easily and did not feel completely out of breath, just a nice fluid heartbeat.
I can already feel the difference and am very happy that Ms Fonda has taken the courage to be different and looked at the older folk out there and concluded we all need a little help!
One thing that did annoy me but wasn't such an issue really, the back ground music tended to be a little loud in places especially on the more intensive workout and at times I had to strain to hear what Jane was saying.Other than that, an amazing DVD, try it, you won't regret it.Good Luck!

What you get is a DVD disc that has two workout routines on them. The second routine is a little more advanced than the first, although neither one is overly strenuous. That's actually a good thing, because this workout DVD is intended for older exercisers. So, choose this DVD if you're a senior, just starting to exercise, or are looking for a light workout.

The workout. Both routines are pretty thorough. By that, I mean that they stretch and strengthen all the major parts of your body. So, this DVD will help you get more flexible, less stiff, and stronger. And, if you keep moving the whole time during the DVD and don't rest, you'll likely get some cardio training in as well (although her walking DVD, Jane Fonda: Prime Time - Walkout, is probably better suited for that). To boot, there's a couple of extras at the end of the DVD- here you'll get a few really good exercises to help improve your balance, and some other tips on exercising. Noteworthy is the fact that many of the exercises are done in standing- although you're holding on to a chair for a lot of them. Both routines are around twenty to twenty-five minutes each.

Just a great little DVD that will get you moving- and keep you moving if you stick with it! Also recommend Treat Your Own Knee Arthritis if you have knee pain that keeps you from exercising. Good luck!

Having reached my mid sixties with accidents causing problems to knees and hip I needed something kinder. I too have been a Jane fan for years, from going for the burn (I never overdid it - I had some understanding of muscle function!), through Low Impact (much better and still a great fan of my VHS tape of this). But the new one has been worth every penny. Kind, but firm too - just how I aim to be again - and after two weeks at the less challenging routine, I upscaled to the second one. It's challenging, and I would really encourage people to watch it through first. Building up balance and strength is emphasised as much as action. It's pointed out to me that my balance isn't as great as I thought, but I have the tools to work on it. Reassuring to see that JF has a few 'senior moments' as we all do - those 'muscles at the front of the arm' are rapidly re-defined as 'biceps'. Even more reassuring that she can still move well after surgery. Looking forward to Walk Out when it becomes available. Now where's those weights????

I was a Jane Fonda devotee many years ago but have let fitness slip a little over the years to the point where I have weight to loose and some sort of fitness level to regain. Not only was it great to hear Jane Fonda instructing once again, I think the DVD would be ideal for anyone who, like me, needs to start from scratch and work up to a comfortable level, but not out to become a fitness goddess. The background music is good for it's purpose and Jane's instructions are clear and informative. Anyone from mid age onwards or overweight starting out on a programme to feel better would probably find this a very good way to start.

This dvd is fantastic - everything is very clearly explained. The background music is not too loud and Jane talks clearly and gives easy to understand instructions. It is set in a lounge and feels very personal and not at all confusing and daunting. The session is just right at 20 mins (session 1) including warm up and cool down. The pace is good, with a variety of excercises. Do not need lots of space, just a chair and enough room to strecth out. We ordered 5 different exercise DVDs and this is the only one we use. There are two levels of exercise session - we have only done the beginners one so far. Brilliant for getting you going - no matter what your age.
