When I read Jane Eyre, I was expecting something which was a little quicker paced. I felt slowed down by all of Charlotte Bronte's descriptions. At some points the detail seemed wonderfully vivd though, I could imagine the insane little laugh of a madwoman echoing inside my ears. It takes a while to get into it also. I spent two days of vacation just trying to get into it. Once you do, it is all rewarded. The story is a very interesting one even if it is a bit unrealistic. I liked how Charlotte Bronte used the supernatural in this book. If you read it, you will know what I mean by the supernatural occurences. In reality, Jane Eyre's paintings can be interpreted to tell the entire story. I just thought that I would point that out. I could never believe that such a story as this could be a bit realistic, but it is more interesting and certainly a better story for its detour from reality. I liked Jane for her independence and imagination (she talks about fairies sometimes). I also found myself wondering about another character, the madwoman in the attic. I liked this book and it is worth reading, but it is far from the best thing that I have ever read.
