Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The late 90s obsession with what foods we put into our bodies shows no sign of abating--thankfully the sensible voice of Jane Clarke rises above those who would urge us to go for faddy diets and restrictive eating habits. Clarke, an experienced nutritionist, Observer columnist and author of the highly popular Body Foods For Life and Body Foods for Women, has come up with the Bodyfoods Cookbook, the soothing green and yellow cover of which entices the reader to "bring bodyfoods into your life". The book is divided into seven sections comprising "Breakfast time boosts" (mango, peach & pink grapefruit smoothies and banana and peanut butter slices), "Long and short lunches" (Jerusalem artichoke soup, sea bass with crab); "Snacks and quick fixes" (happily chocolate is not considered particularly sinful); "Sustaining suppers" (chicken and pumpkin curry, spicy cod) "Ideas for Entertaining" (prawn & saffron risotto, crispy duck with herbs & lemon coats), "Eating on the move", recipe solutions for common ailments such as insomnia, low sex drive and high cholesterol level, and, rounding it all off, "the good herb & edible flower guide".

Jane Clarke's emphasis on mood-enhanced eating to ward off hunger spells and formulate a balanced dietary (as opposed to diet) plan aims to "bridge the gap between eating the foods that you love, purely because they taste good, and those that will help you gain and maintain health and vitality". Most encouragingly, she advocates small helpings of food that have often been labelled as "bad" --butter, for example--rather than their additive-ridden, "low-fat" counterparts. Jane Clarke's Bodyfoods Cookbook is a reassuring, comforting and delicious addition to any cook's shelves--and remember to keep on drinking all that water. --Catherine Taylor --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

Most women have a love-hate relationship with food; women's magazines devote most of their pages to advice on diet and health. Body Foods for Women is written for those who want to make good, healthy, delicious food work for them to maximize health, control weight or to alleviate a host of women's health problems. Jane Clarke treats a wide range of clients with food related complaints, from eating disorders and obesity to hypertension and fatigue. Her approach is to inspire patients to enjoy their food: 'Wine is fine, food deprivation is not. Delicious natural food should replace quacky 'health' foods.' Her philosophy is to look to the foods you can eat rather than those you can't to achieve an inner glow and control that affects every part of your life.

I was first told about this book by a friend of mine, and, as I was trying to find the medium between eating junk and not starving myself, I thought I would give it a go.
There are loads of brilliantly tasty recipes in here, and I really would recommend it to anyone. It also informs you of the benefits derived from most foods; what is good for depression, constipation and even a low sex drive! Not that that was why I bought it!
Whenever you feel you would like a well-balanced, nutritious meal, this is the place to look. From morning pick-you-ups like scrumptious smoothies, through to lunches on the go, and so much more, you will find it difficult to eat food not out of this book. I realise I must sound like Jane Clarke's agent, but I really think this is one foodie book you wouldn't want to be without.

Jane takes you through a number of recipes, giving details of the magic ingredient and its uses. The recipes are easy to make and very tasty, right from simple meals to dishes for entertaining. I first saw Jane Clarke on the Wellbeing tv channel and I went on-line to find her book. I thoroughly recommend it!

I love this book, you are allowed to eat nice food and Jane makes brocolli sound great. As a keen cook with shelf loads of books this is one that I refer to on the days when I need a healthy kick up the rear (usually spending too much time with Nigel Slater!) Really good ideas and written with busy lifestyle in mind.
