Scripture and Jane

I was given this book as a gift for Christmas. Since then, it's either been on my lap or in my purse for easy access.
It's a small, beautiful, cloth-bound book.
Each entry begins with an excerpt from one of Austen's novels followed by a devotional/epiphany from the author's perspective; and ends with a verse of scripture relating to that particular topic. For instance, Mr. Collins and the topic of hypocrisy.
For me, a Jane Austen addict and a follower of Christ, there could not be a more perfect book.
It's a small, beautiful, cloth-bound book.

A devotional perfect for the Austen lover

The first thing that I noticed and love about A Jane Austen Devotional is the beautiful hardbound cloth cover of this book. It's really stunning to look at. This book was an interest to me as a lover of all things Jane. The idea of combining my love for this timeless author and my faith intrigued me.
The author takes passages from each of Austen's books and then gives a short explanation as to why a particular passage is against/in agreement with what the Lord would want of us. Woolsey backs up her explanations with scripture. This is a great book for reflection and character building. It covers topics such as Faithfulness, Esteeming Others, Developing Self Control, Looking for God's Purpose, and Pouring God's Grace on Others. This book offers over 100 different devotions.
I really like this devotional. Woolsey does a great job with pairing up scripture and passages from Austen's novels. They fit together perfectly. It's not overly preachy or nagging but it's encouraging and supporting. Reading each entry takes less than five minutes and would be a great way to start the day for anyone. This would be a great book for any Jane Austen lover wanting to grow closer to God.

What a pleasure!

A love for Pride and Prejudice drew me to this unique, refreshing devotional. I think this lovely set of writings and contemplations are perfect for someone who: adores Jane Austen, thinks highly of her characterization (for this is what carries this devotional), and desires a simple but elegant way to meditate on His word. In this collection, you will find a short excerpt from one of Austen's books along with a splendid application from her work to HIS word, and a Bible verse. It is certainly a treasure! Not only are you shown the positive nature of characters, but the lack of such thing. You learn and dig deeper into the world of the Bennetts, Emma, Catherine, and many others you will find familiar! I especially enjoyed the comparison between Caroline Bingley's "baiting" and the way that Satan works, much the same at times. It was a great reminder to one of the enemy's greatest weapons- those words to lie, trick, and twist.
