I originally stumbled upon this book while browsing Foyles in London, within less than a minute I'd rushed to the till to hand over my cash. This is one of those rare, beautifully crafted books that you can't help but covet, I've even been known to sniff at the pages, and also to hold them at an angle to the light, just to admire the density of ink on the page.
And the content; well, Jan Tschichold's work is remarkable and this is the finest, tribute, survey and analysis that I've yet to come across. If you are a designer, this book is a MUST, have an interest in design, it's a MUST. Appreciate art, craft, aesthetics, modernism or problem solving, then I'd also highly recommend it.
It would also make a great gift for a design student, or anyone interested in design.

A solid introduction, but not without its flaws

For those with only a passing acquaintance with Tschichold, this will flesh out one of the most important graphic designers of the twentieth century. However, for those who have spent more time researching this continually developing field of art history this book will feel a little bit too... hagiographic.
