His father was an (Otolaryngologist) a physician specialist, specializing in eye ear nose and, throat. Dr. Pickens was one of the top specialist physicians in his field in the U.S. His mother (Evelyn Stewart Pickens), was a registered nurse and, the founder of many charitable organizations in and, around the state of Arkansas. Jim, grew up in Rogers, Arkansas. He attended The University of Arkansas where, he studied architecture and, where he played football for the razorbacks. He went on to work for Curtis and Davis Architects in New Orleans, LA. Where, he worked on many major projects such as, the Louisiana Superdome, Rivergate and, the Marriott hotel on Canal St. He also attended The University of Colorado where he was an assistant design instructor in the school of architecture. Mr. Pickens, is also on the executive board of advisors, (The College Of Business), at UNLV, and lectures at major universities around the world.
