The WAHL James Martin 300W hand mixer with rubberised handle is a versatile, user-friendly tool for all your mixing needs. It comes with three types of attachment (beater, whisk and dough hooks), recipe book and instructional DVD. The hand mixer feels substantial: a heavy-duty tool rather than a flimsy kitchen appliance. Its speed-setting switch (speeds 1-5) and turbo button are perfectly placed, allowing the user to change settings with a thumb while mixing.
The beater attachment makes light work of egg beating. Be wary of using higher speeds or the turbo button when mixing eggs, as this can result in the kitchen walls wearing most of the mixture. When beating eggs for omelettes, speeds 1 and 2 are capable of mixing without mess.
With whisk attachments fitted, I mixed pancake ingredients (using the book's recipe). The mixer blended the ingredients with ease, its whisks following the line of the bowl. The result was perfect pancakes.
The dough hooks are ideal for mixing dough for focaccia, ciabatta, pizza bases or loaves.
I'm a culinary novice, yet the hand mixer has allowed me to expand my repertoire, making complicated recipes easy and simple recipes easier still. In terms of design, user-friendliness, construction quality and ease of cleaning, the hand mixer is flawless.
