    1.0 out of 5 stars Science + Celebrity Chefs = Fail., 29 Sep 2007
By Ms. K. A. Howard - See all my reviews

"Ooh, a digital steamer!" thought I after my last died a death after a long and happy life. I was excited to use exciting new digital science to cook my dinner!

Or I would, if this wasn't the worst creation ever. Firstly, the element and the maximum fill line are the same height, meaning it's not at all economical with water and you have to refill it constantly to ensure the element doesn't burn.

The digital display is handy until the third time you use it, and you're confronted with 88:88 because the display has died on you. But at that point it was still cooking my vegetables, so I was Ok with it.

Two weeks into owning this travesty of an item, it complete dies on me. It won't start. The display just sits there, glowing blue and mocking me with it's quadruple eights.

Terrible product, don't buy it ever. Buy something else!

    1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS STEAMER!, 17 Mar 2008
By G. Fisher - See all my reviews

I'm not new to steamers, using one every day. When my old one died (from years of use!), I bought this one as it seemed to have every feature I needed and was backed with the James Martin name.
Three times I used it, and it worked. THE FOURTH TIME - it refused to steam. Now I'm faced with the hassle of sending it back to get a refund plus I'm down the £7.99 I paid to have it couriered to me. AND I've got to go and buy another steamer! I'm really REALLY furious about this. So DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE - go and find one that works. AND I've given it one star because there's not an option to give it NO STARS AT ALL.

1.0 out of 5 stars Should have taken more notice of the reviews, 16 Jul 2009
By Mrs. H. Kent "hazel kent" (UK) - See all my reviews
    (REAL NAME)
Having been a steamer user for many years, my last one which was a Prestige digital. Alas, after a year or so, the baskets decided to break up. This was the best steamer I have ever had and they no longer make it. I wanted another with a large capacity as I have a family of 5 very hungry people and the 10 litres of the Prestige was excellent. So, I needed a replacement and decided to ignore the other reviews and go for this one. I must admit, I have used it since the beginning of June (it's now the end of July) and haven't experienced any of the problems the other folk have. However, when I first received it I had the inkling it was a second. Firstly as the clock was already set and in the instructions it told me I had to do this to start with. There was a tiny build up of scale around the element as well. So, I went with it and have been using it happily for over a month and a half. The controls are not easy and I found myself having to follow the instructions for the first week until I got the hang of them! How stupid! I've never had a steamer where I've had to follow the instructions but I hung on in there. Bearing in mind, I use my steamer EVERY day. On Monday, one lug on one of one of the basket bottoms fell off which now means it falls out if you want to tip the last bits of veg onto a plate. Today, another lug has fallen off from the same basket bottom and another lug from a different bottom. I am now trying to get a replacement or refund as this is a very tackily made item. The delay start is great though! Think that's about the only good point. The lid always feels like it's not quite sat right as well. So, personally, I'd not bother with this steamer if I were you! Now back to square one to try to find a steamer with a large capacity.
