This is an excelent DVD with some superb photography. Shot predominantly in and around the Swaledale & Wensleydale area's with journey's to Harrogate, York & the coast. Not just a sunshine DVD either , there are sequences filmed in the rain or when the visibility isn't too good which I think helps to show the landscapes true character, it's not just about the chocolate box shots. One might think that with a 'name' presenting the DVD it might be full of inane prattling but Christopher Timothy makes a wise decision in keeping the commentry to a bare minimun and let's the landscape do the talking. Occasional, but short, readings from the books are given where they have significant reference. I've never read the books or seen more than half a dozen of the TV shows but I hike the area from time to time and this is a splendid record of it. If I had one slight grumble it would be that in the York section too much time is spent on the Minster, but I am nit-picking.

As my wife and I had been greatly enjoying a re-run of the "All Creatures...." series on DVD, it seemed appropriate to add some
'verismo' by sampling this factual biographical bonus. It did add
depth to the TV presentation, and I can strongly recommend this DVD
to other followers of the Herriot saga.

I originally bought this on VHS, many years ago when it first came out, and was very pleased to hear that it has been made available on DVD. For anyone looking for the ultimate guide to the Yorkshire Dales & Moors, this is it. The film-makers have produced a totally first rate production with suitable music and stunning evocative filming of the ancient & misty Yorkshire landscape. Christopher Timothy's appearance and narration keeps the viewer enthralled to one of England's best loved areas. I can recommend this 100% to anyone interested in Yorkshire and James Herriot's stories. Buy this. You won't be disappointed.

Excellent DVD, lovely walks around the dales, speedy delivery, buy and watch . The local villages are picturesque and you certainly get a taste of life in these areas,
