I'm glad to report (at the time of writing) this DVD surpasses any other James Brown DVD on the market.

This legendary performance of James Brown at Boston, just as he is hitting his stride is beloved of fans and has long been a bootleg collector's item. The picture quality and sound has been cleaned up so marvellously well (you can turn it up loud with no background hiss). James Brown's performance is nothing short of breathtaking and packed full of exciting moments. He gives the band directions integrated seamlessly into his tight dance steps. The band are on amazing form and the crowd have a mixture of excitement and tension caused by the death of Dr. Martin Luther King the night before, the intimidating police presence and excitement of the show. JB managed to avert a riot though and the accompanying documentary gives you the whole story with some fantastic archive clips.

The third disc of JB's Apollo show from '68, has great sound and an adequate picture - but considering bootlegs of this were previously unwatchable, it's great to have. The camera team did quite a poor job at the time of capturing the dynamism of the show but the sound quality gives you the feeling of what it was all about.

With some great extras, including a stunning T.A.M.I. show appearance in full widescreen, this DVD is a fan's dream. Highly, highly recommended and very, very funky.
