Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Finally the James Bond games have done what the films should’ve done years ago: they’ve gone back to the ‘60s. From Russia with Love doesn’t seem to have all that much to do with the film of the same name (it seems an odd choice anyway since it was the least gadget heavy of all the movies and even vaguely realistic in parts) but it is highly evocative of Connery era Bond in general.

Even ignoring the ‘60s angle, the fact that the game is obviously trying to distance itself from the risible GoldenEye: Rogue Agent is another obvious boon. It’s a third person adventure much more in keeping with Everything or Nothing, with a similar mix of on foot and vehicle combat, with particular emphasis seeming to be given to the jetpack from Thunderball.

Although Bond looks and sounds (thanks to newly recorded dialogue by the man himself) like Sean Connery the game also has a role-playing element where you can customise your character according to your preferred style of play. There’s also an online and split screen multiplayer mode for you to compare these settings with friends.

Alas there doesn’t yet seem to be any sign of a mini-game allowing you to ferret out bad guys according to their incorrect choice of wine at the dinner table, but in all other respects this is shaping up to be the ultimate retro Bond game. --Harrison Dent

This preview is based on an incomplete version of the game; features or problems mentioned above may not appear in the finished game.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good as it Gets 17 Feb 2006
This game is totally what you'd expect it to be, all action from beginning to end. Plenty of equipment to choose from- sonic cufflinks, portable gun turrets and of course the essential jet pack.

Don't expect to complete a mission easily. You think you've completed a mission, only to suddenly find yourself back driving or heading down river in a speedboat.

My only criticism would be the aiming system when on the boat. The enemies are impossible to kill unless you zoom in but when you do it throws the targeting off so you have to forget accurate aim and just hope you hit something.

The end sequence of the game is rather short and disappointing too considering the amount of work you've put in to get there!

This game isn't just for Bond fans. Anybody who likes shoot 'em ups and action will enjoy this!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Game 21 Jun 2006
By Chris
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic Bond game. I bought it over 4 weeks ago and am still enjoying the game. There are over 16 missions in which you get to fly a jetpack, drive a DB5, and shoot a machine gun off a moving boat.

I think that this game is great fun for all ages and the Sean Connery voiceovers are brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 19 Mar 2006
By A Customer
People say it's too easy? I'm not that gr8 at 1st person shooters but this game being more easy means i can progress in the levels instead of being stuck on the first few unable to get any further. It sticks close to the movie and therefore is a must for all bond fans like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME! but is it a classic? 3 Dec 2005
By A Customer
This edition to the Bond video game collection is very exciting and proberly one of the best yet! The game is based on one of least action-packed Bond films but, this video game is more than action-packed, its better! There are new features on the game such as using a jetpack and retreiving your misson documents and gadgets from MI6 headquaters! There is also training before your missions aswell! When your on a car mission you will find the driving to be harder to control than any other Bond game but that makes it more interesting and realistic. The aiming and shooting is to easy thanks to the new feature of Bond focus mode, but the new Bond focus mode though it maybe too easy, its so much more fun and sort of in a way more realistic. the graphics are awsome and very clear and the only other downside to the game is that Sean Connery sounds much older than he looks because he recorded the scripts for the game himself! But apart from those little downsides to the game (which don't really matter) Its a very good game packed with surprises that will keep you glued to the game for weeks!I'm not sure whether it will be a classic for all the action-packed shooting game fans but its definately WORTH THE MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!! Hope this review was useful to anyone wishing to purchase the game!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game 1 Jan 2006
This is an excellent game. The graphics are very clear and detailed, and the levels are nice and long. There is so much action in this game it'll keep you on the edge of your seat. Unfortunately it only took me a few days to get near enough to the end. And when I did I discovered that in order to complete the last 3 levels, you have to collect virtually all the reward points from previous levels which is very difficult indeed. When I discovered this annoying flaw I had to start the game all over again trying to find reward points. Because of this, I would say Everything or Nothing was better, but apart from that, it is a very good action game.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but we've seen it before. 1 Jan 2006
Based on the film, "From Russia with Love," EA have compiled a game that fans of the James Bond series will love, and those who love great games will enjoy.
From Russia With Love follows James Bond attempting to save the world once again from forces that threaten all sorts of horrible things for Mankind, and who want James Bond out of the way. Basically, its based on the film.
The graphics are good, but not great. You get the feeling they could have been better, and that more detail could have been added, especially in certain sections such as the hedge maze. However, there are some brilliant touches such as flying above London, so you'll forgive this. That, and there is very little pop up 2 and the enemies are well created.
The gameplay is set in the third person (you control a person as opposed to just a gun.) This follows the same formulae as James Bond, "Everything or Nothing," on PS2. That is, you shoot, fly and drive your way through the missions (flying is a nice touch.) However, it is so deep. The shooting sections for instance mean you can either a) creep up and use excellent stealth moves, b) take cover and shoot or c) go in all guns blazing. This means it can keep everyone happy. Add to this the fact that you can upgrade your weapons and gadgets by finding schematics in the game and some brilliant gadgets such as the little helicopter bomb thing and you've got a great game. Best thing is that Sean Connery even lends his voice to the game, so the sound is good too.
What lets it down, 1) only 22 levels means its not very long. 2) We saw all of this in "Everything or Nothing," which even had an original story line. For those who always wanted to see a James Bond game based on one of the films though, this is great.
