Tense, no-nonsense thrills,
By
This review is from: James Bond 007: The Man with the Golden Gun (Paperback)
These comic strips provide an almost perfect comnbination of the deadly thrills of Fleming and the style and glamour of the classic Bond movies. Jim Lawrence combines extreme economy and pure storytelling, creating entertainingly straight-forward, no-messing-around narratives. The art from Yaroslav Horak is simply fantastic, angular and dramatic. His version of 007 is arguably the best ever version of the character. The Living Daylights is a tense little take, and The Man with the Golden Gun is a classic. It's intense climax even outdoes that of the movie.

Bond, James Bond,

This review is from: James Bond 007: The Man with the Golden Gun (Paperback)
One of a re-issue series (initially available in the 80s) by Books, Titan Books of their Bond, James Bond newspaper comic strip reprints (originally published by the Express, Daily Express in the 60s). This edition features the title story and The Living Daylights, written by Fleming, Ian Fleming and adapted by Lawrence, Jim Lawrence. Although the first artist in the series was McLusky, John McLusky (whose style closely resembled the Bond films), I prefer the more angular, edgy style of Horak, Yaroslav Horak which chimes well with the tension in the stories. Also includes a comic strip checklist for collectors.

This review is from: James Bond 007: The Man with the Golden Gun (Paperback)
I grew up reading the Horak Bond strips every day in the back of the Daily Express. I'm a comics and comic-strip fan, always have been. I even remember cutting out the Bond strips and collecting them in a scrap book. Now I don't have to! Titan have done it for me, and I'm very grateful. Love the scratchy artwork, love the stories .. this is a great book.
