DVD Description

The ladies of the Clatterford Women's Guild are back for a second series of the acclaimed Jam & Jerusalem. Set in a small west country town, Series Two follows the continuing exploits of ex-practice nurse Sal Vine and the memorable - and not a little eccentric - members of the local Guild. Written by Jennifer Saunders and starring some of the best-loved names in comedy, Jam & Jerusalem is a comedy that takes an affectionate look at village life and the empathy and togetherness found in a local community where everyone knows everyone's business.

As with series one,we are treated to another helping of the Clatterford women's guild and their associated lives.

Many delights in this series, including Tash's fab wedding after realising Spike was her guy,Delilah,(Joanna Lumley as the old organist),falling off her bike, and Kate's constant intrusion into Sal's(Sue Johnston)life.

Rosie(Dawn French) in meltdown mode is also hilarious and moving at the same time, and her ogling of Eileen's(the guild leader)guild regalia is always comical!

Too many delights to mention really, but if subtle, unhyped, well written comedy/drama is your thing,(without annoying canned laughter)then you'll adore this series! Barely a day passes by that I don't put an episode or two on.(P.S.-Don't miss the cricket match between a rival guild team-just brilliant!)

The second series of Jennifer Saunders subtle and endearing comedy/drama, (yes, drama!), continues where the first left off, seeing all the members of the original series reunited. (Joanna Lumley however makes a spectacular "exit" early on).
If anything, this series is an improvement on the first, mainly i think because the charecters are so rounded and developed, thanks to the writers incredible perseption in peoples everyday lives and interaction. Some tough issues are tackled here and some quite dark undercurrents are briefly exposed at moments almost deisgned to shock, this said, even those are handled with sensitivety and humour.
This collection; six episodes in total, benefit enormously from re-watching, like Victoria Wood's "Dinnerladies", it matures and the watcher appreciates more of the skill in the writers and actors talents with each repeated viewing.
Criminally ignored by and large when first transmitted, now you can sit back, relax, and like a good book, soak it all up at a leasurely pace....bliss!
(The third series is being scripted at the moment and should be out early next year).

One for the ladies 20 April 2009
Format:DVD
A must watch - I am not sure that Devon ladies will appreciate being depicted in this way but some of these characters are definitely identifiable. Really funny, and full of catch phrases that you will find yourself repeating.
