DVD Description
Parenthood surprises Jamie and Julie Diadoni late on in life, but son Jake is not born into domestic harmony. Jamie – a handsome failed pop star – loses his job, Julie is forced out to work, and he takes on the role of house husband. Jake grows up loving his father but hating his absent mother. A new pregnancy is the final straw. His misunderstood side manifests itself as he fantasises about pushing his brother off a cliff and attempts to set fire to him. Meanwhile, events take a tragic twist as Jamie has his fortune told and learns he will have an affair – just before he dies. Drawn inexorably towards his fate, he falls in love with mysterious stranger Kate and embarks on an affair after discovering the prophecy was invented by Julie as a joke. But Julie learns just how dangerous it is to play games with fate.

Okay - what was Jakes Progress? Basically one of the best TV drama's of the 90's that's what it is. Overshadowed by GBH - this follow up to it - is simply superb. Okay - fair enough - it takes a while to settle down - but from episode 2 onwards it soars. The whole tale enfolds marvellously. Evryone in it acts wonderfully - and it never lets up. Even by the final episode it doesn't run out of steam with a wonderful bit set in an ameteur dramatic rehearsal. It's just amazing - it really is. To tell you the story would ruin it - but it's basically how one small act can basically turn everything upside down! And everything else basically unfolds from there. Watch it - buy it - tell your friends - its a forgotten gem that deserves so much more. I guarentee YOU will LOVE it!!!

This is one of, if not the best, TV mini-series I have ever watched. I saw it, if memory serves, in the mid-90's, broadcast on Canada's CBC television network. I'm delighted to see it has finally been released on DVD, but very disappointed to see that so far it's only available in UK's PAL 2 DVD format. Please, somebody make this excellent program available on DVD in North America, in the NTSC standard here. Please!!!

Wow. I never saw this when it was shown on T.V. Having read the reviews, I decided to buy it, and am I glad I did!! Every episode had me gripped and kept me glued right to the very end. To say I enjoyed it is an under-statement.

There are many faces to Robert. He has shown again how talented an actor he is when given a good script. Great supporting cast. Watch and enjoy.
