This book is very accessible to 8-9 year old boys, the words are of similar difficulty and therefore if the child feels comfortable reading page one, he'll enjoy the rest. Choosen by a retired teacher for my son and appreciated by a current teacher friend-but the best recommendation of all is that my son who has not enjoyed reading alone was found on holiday reading after 'lights out'!
