This is a book on how the jaguar team decided on what will be the next car and how they managed those problems in the beginning of this era. It was not only the car, but olso the financial problems that Jaguar had at that time. The writer is well known by the Jaguar team, so he will tell you all about the car from scratch.

Probably the best XK8/XKR book... 13 May 2010

for the development history of the cars and insight into Jaguar at a time when Ford had taken over and the struggle to keep Jaguar "Jaguar" was going on. I have most of the books on this subject and I have not seen a book with more in-depth coverage on the different design considerations, the process, etc., in bringing this car to market. It is chock full of great photos documenting every step of the way.

I found this book a great read not just because of the subject matter, but the depth of detail in what it took to bring a brilliant design and concept to the light of day in what best can be described as uncertain circumstances.

The primary thrust of this book is up to the launch of the XK8. The second edition has information and details of the XKR launch, but little if any content past the 2000 MY. If you are looking for the way the XK8/XKR came about, this is the book and I highly recommend it.

Best I've found 17 Dec. 2010

I bought a 2006 (made in 2005) XK8 amd found so little data on the car I was distressed. This book was a beam of light. It starts early and quickly offers up the history leading to the XK8. Then it slows down and gets very detailed about the development of the car. Buying, owning, and modifying the car are included. It includes production figures. I bought it for the maintenance schedule, as my car came only with the drivers manual. I am glad I bought this book.
Jaguar XK8 12 Mar. 2014

I was very pleased with Philip Porter's latest book as I have several of his previous books on the Jaguar marque (including both E-Type: The Definitive History and The Original XK). He is very much a must read for any serious fan of the Jagual marque.
