Book Description

1 April 2009 Collectors Originality Guide
Few cars have made a greater impression on the public than the Jaguar E-Type. Revealed in 1961 as the successor to the famous D-Type, the E-type combined sleek and graceful lines with exhilarating 150-mile-an-hour performance, nimble handling, and a comfortable ride. The result was an instant success in the UK, Europe, and America.Subsequent refinements guided the car through a highly successful production run that lasted into the mid-1970's, establishing the E-Type as an epitome of cool in performance cars. In the decades since, this legendary car has only grown in stature, becoming one of the most coveted collector sports cars form the 1960's. This book draws from factory records, the accumulated knowledge of Jaguar restorer Philip Porter, and photographer Tim Andrew to provide an expert resource for restoring a Jaguar E-Type to its original spec. With over 160 photographs of 12 lovingly restored and maintained models in perfect condition, this is the definitive guide for any E-Type owner, restorer, and enthusiast.

Product Description

This book is a must have for Jaguar E-Type enthusiasts. Intended as a restorers guide, this book has little historical information. It is largely comprised of build details of every model of E-Type - from the original Series I 3.8 litre, with outside bonnet latches, to the last Series III V-12. Successive changes in each model are well documented, including the Series 1 1/2 changes. Each model change is bracketed by the starting and ending serial numbers of the models effected. The color photographs in this book are outstanding. Photos were taken of meticulously restored, clean vehicles, in ideal lighting situations. Billed as a restorers guide, this book is more of a checklist for item completion during the restoration process, or a guide to authenticity when you are reviewing an E-Type at a show, auction, or for purchase. If you are looking for a book to assist you during the restoration process, this is not it. However, if you want to double check that you have a correct car, this will get you most of the way there. Additionally, I know of no one who has restored any automobile without looking over as many examples as possible. --Hemmings Magazine

Another in the Original Cars Series by Philip Porter. Excellent color photography by Tim Andrew. All of the cars pictured are right hand drive. There are enough close-ups of details, especially interiors to make this car worth the price. Covers everything from the flat-floor S1's to the last black S3. Especially useful is the charts of all of the original factory interior - exterior color combinations. Lots of details on production changes. Well worth the price --Echo Beach news

4.0 out of 5 stars Good addition to your E-Type Library 6 Aug 2010

This book is a great addition to your library. Considering many of these cars have been 'modified' over the years, this book is a great use while you're looking for a car to work out how original the car is. It seems mostly accurate and has a lot of good detail in it. Worth the purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit light but worth the price 12 April 2013
By Thomas A. Blank - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
What I liked most was the cynical way of looking at buying an E-Type (the authors very own words). The book is certainly another important edition of the E-Type's enthusiast book collection and helps in some aspects to identify changes over the years and model ranges. I am missing the detail and when Philip Porter writes that he did not want to go into such detail levels, who would then? Based on the book I could at least exclude on E-Type from the range I was looking at buying, so I had my ROI.
