I want to like it but I can't
on 17 December 2014
I would love to have given this lamp 5 stars but I just can't. I spent days deciding whether to order this lamp or not and eventually having read most of the reviews decided I would go for it.
The pro's - I love the look of the lamp, it's a real statement piece, and it is really large.
Cons - the lamp was delivered in two parcels on two different days (I knew this might happen due to the reviews so was not surprised by this).
I received a lot of polite but confusing emails from Jago customer services asking me to identify whether I had a green or red German socket as they had run out of adapters and I'd need to let them know what kind of German socket I had once the lamp had arrived! Try as I might I couldn't get them to understand I live in the UK. In fact the lamp arrived with a UK style plug on it so no problems there. However, the lamp is poorly designed at the bottom where it attaches to the base with a threaded sleeve. This was cross threaded when the lamp arrived, then the lamp fell apart due to the cross threading. We have done our best to put it together again but the lamp no longer stands vertically, the main shaft leans at a considerable angle. It is now hidden behind my sofa propped up on books on one side to give an illusion that it is standing straight. I think the heavy metal lamp and shade is too much for the materials used where the lamp is at it's most stressed. I really wanted to love this lamp but given the chance again I'd save my money for longer and spend more on something better quality. I want to like it but I can't, would have sent it back but it's too near Christmas, I need a lamp now and can't face the hassle of returning it and waiting for a refund.
