For anyone not used to watching Far Eastern film Korea is without doubt a truly excellent proponent of deeply moving, emotionally engaging and thoughtful philosophically deep multi layered stories that have a reality based theme true to life and sometimes will make you cry and leave you feeling others also have the same thoughts, feelings etc and your not really alone. This film is Korean with English subtitles so is open to everyone. or if your a speaker of Korean just watch without the english.

I wont spoil it for those who purchase this film but in basic this film revolves around a small group of 5 schoolgirls who are just about to leave school in the town of Inchon, a small industrial dockside town that is a dump and enter the big wide world of work. They promise to stay friends forever. The film shows the girls over time as they go from the usual preoccupations of talking about boys, make up, and mobile phones etc, to much deeper adult concerns as getting jobs and making thier way in an unforgiving cold world. They promise each other to always stay together after they leave school and the film documents the slow destruction and fragmentation of their friendship and drifting apart from each other as time passes and they have to find work among other distractions such as family life. One girl gets a job as a typist for a Poet and another gets a very good job in the City of Seoul. This part detailing the slow destruction of the girls friendship in itself is truly heartbreaking as you see through accident of circumstance how very easy it is that long term frindeships can fall apart no matter how well intentioned those who's frindeship it is.

One girl in particular, a very talented artist drifts into depression and... well just buy the film and watch with a hanky at the ready. This is a very shrewd incredibly well acted film that goes deep into the issues that twentysomethings have to face in their daily lives.

This is a film that will show you that the issues the girls face are universal and not just a "western" phenomenon unique to only us here in the west

A nominated film by jae-eun Jeong that is very well deserved it's 5 international awards. Bae Doo Na, Yu-Won Lee with Ji-Young Ok are stunning actresses and deserve to be recognised here in the west far more than they ever will be. Actors in America just can't get anywhere near the reality of such brilliant acting shown by Korean actors. If you only every buy one Korean film BUY this one and get ready for an excellent film and one that will stay with you for a long long time.
