Book Description

2 May 2006

At 24, Jade has had a life that reads more like a soap opera and she now tells her extraordinary story. From being abandoned by her father, to caring for her mother, and bringing up 2 kids on her own, Jade reveals far more than the tabloids have ever known, and her autobiography will have you crying with tears of laughter, sympathy and disbelief.

From the moment Jade Goody opened her mouth on national TV in 2002, the unofficial winner of Big Brother had already claimed her crown. With such conversational gems as ‘Where is East Angular? I thought it was abroad’, ‘Rio de Janeiro, ain't that a person?’ and ‘They were trying to use me as an escape goat’, it wasn't long before Jade was the most talked about woman in the country.

Three years later and Jade still sells more tabloids and magazines than any reality TV star in history. Every aspect of her life has been a source of fascination – from being abandoned by her father and living with a lesbian mother, to her volatile relationship with her ex-boyfriend Jeff Brazier and even her recent boob job – the national obsession with Jade Goody shows no sign of stopping.

As a young kid growing up in Bermondsey and Peckham, Jade was either in foster care or acting as a 'carer' for her mum Jackiey, who lost the use of her left arm in a motorbike accident. Jade remembers waking up aged six, having to drag her mum out of their burning house when Jackiey's bed caught fire on the candles she had lit hours before.

Such dramas have continued to this very day. In this book Jade talks in full for the first time about her life, from what really went on under the sheets with PJ in the BB house and the mental scars she suffered when the tabloids labelled her ‘Pig Brother’, to meeting Jeff, falling pregnant (twice) and finding a whole heap of celebrity friends.

Heart-rending, hilarious and shockingly revealing, this book will give a fascinating insight into Jade’s extraordinary life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jade Goody 21 April 2011
Fantastic book. Jade went through so much as a young girl and came through the other end with flying colours. She really made something of her life and it's sad that she was taken away at such a young age, but has 2 lovely boys to be proud of. The book is such a good read i didn't want to put it down. xx

No-one is more amazed at Jade Goody`s fame than Jade herself. Take away that fame and this is still very much a story worth telling and worth reading. Her mother the one armed puffing lesbian go-offer, and her father the robbing drug addict jailbird - between them they gave her one crazy, never to be forgotten childhood. One thing that comes across very clearly throughout all the craziness is that Jade`s mother loved her very much, and of course still does. I had no opinion on Jade before reading this book and didn`t know what to expect. I`m certainly no follower of hers and didn`t know much about her at all, but i thoroughly enjoyed this book and found myself chuckling away quite a few times at her naive honesty. Her parting shot at the very end of the book is hilarious !
Quote from the introduction -: `You either love her or hate her.`
Or you could just like her. After reading this book, i just like her.
Whatever your opinion of her, there`s no denying it - the girl from Bermondsey did good.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Fit For Purpose... 20 Jan 2007
An autobiography, by dictionary definition is an "account of a person's life written by that person". So the title itself is incorrect - Jade can barely write her name - let alone a book!
Admittedly, this is not Chaucer, Wilde or Kafka (it's not even up to Roger Hargreaves standards!), but not even Ms Goody could have managed it.

The content is very revealling for anyone who cares - she is and should have been a talentless nobody who should never have become a 'celebrity'.
For her to have been allowed a 'book deal' is a disgrace.
The book describes her poor, squalid up-bringing and explains why she's so ill-educated and ignorant. Perhaps going back to education would have been a better and more deserving idea, than quick cheap fame for no other reason than getting her ample body out on National TV?

A disgrace of a book.

4.0 out of 5 stars A no holds barred insite into Jades upbringing 7 Mar 2007
Once i started reading this book i could not put it down. I had known that Jade had a hard upbringing and childhood but i had never realised just how hard. A mixture of emotions from disbelief to complete hilarity. Have since passed this book around my family who all enjoyed it immensly. A thoroughly good read although probably not for the intellectuals amongst us!

1.0 out of 5 stars INTERESTING? NO!! 5 May 2006
I have to say that having just finished it,all my preconceptions of this girl were realised. Why other people would find this remotely interesting is a mystery. I love reading about people who have achieved goals in their lives ( Scar Tissue is probably the best biography in the last ten years ), but what has Miss Goody ever achieved.

This is the person who couldnt even win the Big Brother debacle that has numbed minds of viewers of, shall we dare say, lower intelligence.

Please dont waste your hard earned cash on this book

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but nothing new 28 Aug 2007
By Chelli
Jade has had quite an interesting life for somebody so young and has enough tales to tell to fill an autobiography, but unfortunately most of the tales in it have already been told in the tabloids so I didn't learn that much more about her from reading this book. Literary genius she isn't, but she does do a good job of telling the tales very honestly and she can be quite funny too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful 11 Jan 2007
This book is absolute rubbish, written by someone who can't write to be read by people who can't read. The more I read of it the worse I felt at the thought of this mindless woman becoming a role model for teenage girls. It's worth reading just to see how low this "celebrity" culture of ours has become.

I normally love self-written books by celebs who dont conform to the old fashioned method of becoming famous i.e having talent. See my other reviews for proof. But frankly this book is the worst thing ever. Thats right, not the worst book or piece of literature, but the single worst thing ever created by mankind. As much as I love Jade & her arousing good looks, elequency & respect towards other races, this book is terrible. Most of the book is far fetched nonsense. Growing up in poverty with a one armed lesbian mother? Puh-lease! The whole 'bad childhood' cliche in these books is an overused, tried-&-tested plot device in order to make the end seem more happy & climatic. Why couldnt it have had a sad ending? Or a cliffhanger ala The Italian Job? Also her political commentary is way off the mark & her attempts at satire seems to fall flat on its face everytime.

I cried with tears of rage & frustration when I'd finished this book. I hope your next book is more believable next time Jade, or I will be very upset. >:-(
