More About the Author

It could be said that Tom Percival had an unconventional childhood in a remote and beautiful part of South Shropshire. But you just as easily rephrase that by saying that he grew up in a ramshackle and freezing-cold caravan with no electricity or heating. Whichever way you look at it, these formative years are almost certainly what first got him interested in writing and drawing.

The first books that Tom ever loved were the Tim and the Hidden People series by Sheila McCullagh, which featured a magical cat called Tobias. It all seemed VERY real at night, in a draughty caravan, reading by gaslight in a howling gale.

After trying a few cities on for size, he decided that deep down he had always been a country boy and now he lives on the edge of Rodborough common in Gloucestershire with his girlfriend and their two young sons.

Tom has produced covers and internal illustrations for the Skulduggery Pleasant series of books as well as for the Chronicles of Egg series by Geoff Rodkey and Shiverton Hall by Emerald Fennell. He has also illustrated titles by Anthony Horowitz, Pete Johnson, Alexadro Adornetto and a whole host of other people.

Tom has three picture books currently available, 'Tobias and the Super Spooky Ghost Book', 'A Home for Mr Tipps' and 'Jack's AMAZING Shadow'.

His next book, 'Herman's Letter' will follow in October 2013 and is published by Bloomsbury.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book, lovely story 22 April 2013
By sb
Format:Paperback
Jack's AMAZING Shadow is a lovely story that has lots of little hooks that are really engaging for kids. It is beautifully illustrated, well produced and a perfect length. My boy is fascinated with his own shadow so took to it immediately - he also loved Tom Percival's previous book A HOME FOR MR TIPPS and can virtually recite all the words and gets super-excited at the scary bit at the end. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Tom Percival 23 Jun 2013

Having enjoyed both "the super scary ghost book" and "a home for mr tipps" we were looking forward to another book. And this one wont disappoint. My children 3 & 6 really love this. The illustrations as always are brilliant. And the examples of shadow animals have been the source of lots of fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous! 28 April 2013
By Grovesy
Format:Paperback
This book is enchanting, a real treat for the eyes! The story is lovely and so beautifully illustrated, my 3 year old adores looking at the pictures. We love the great shadow puppet ideas inside the sleeves; once you have finished the story you can have fun trying to get small hands to make shapes on the walls - a really thoughtful touch to a fab book that has kept us entertained for hours.
