4.0 out of 5 stars Praise for essential reference work, 1 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jackie Chan (Pocket Essentials) (Paperback)
Jackie Chan's films have been repackaged so often over the years (not by him) that it can be very tricky to know which is which, especially with the 70's films. Would you guess that 'Master With Cracked Fingers' is the same film as 'Little Tiger of Canton' just from the title ? This little book handily sorts out exactly what his films are, and points out which are mere rip-offs of his name or just early, not very good work. Each film has a review of itself as a work, and also of how typical it is of a 'Chan flick', so you know what to expect. The authors' enthusiasm is infectious and makes you want to go out and find some of those obscurities. Highly recommended

5.0 out of 5 stars Bursting with facts and enthusiasm, 11 Jun 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Jackie Chan (Pocket Essentials) (Paperback)
I didn't know much at all about Jackie Chan before reading this book. I bought it because I was so impressed with the authors' previous book in the series, on David Lynch. The style here is a little different and more appropriate, I think, to the Jackie Chan oeuvre. The writers' enthusiasm practically leaps off the page and drags you to the video store, and the wealth of facts crammed into such a small book leaves you feeling informed and feeling sure that these guys really do know what they're talking about. Like the David Lynch book, it's a great introduction to some interesting 'cult' films. I'm now definitely a LeBlanc and Odell fan and hope that they will be writing more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Odell and Le Blanc Go From Strength to Strength, 25 May 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Jackie Chan (Pocket Essentials) (Paperback)
After the excellent David Lynch book, Odell and Le Blanc have turned their hand to the film legend that is Jackie Chan. I have always thought of Jackie Chan's CV as what Bruce Lee would have wanted had he lived long enough, and here, their book empowers you with a full compliation of Chan's film history. Their witty and enthusiastic manner, fully untangles the Martial Arts genre with some style. An excellent book full of interesting data. Good luck to you Colin and Michelle, I cannot wait for when you move onto some of your other favourite Cult films. Bravo.
