Raw Dublin 14 Dec 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This is Dublin - a poor Dublin. The mentality, the lifestyle, it's all here in this book. Thompson gives an incredible insight to the ordinary people thru the powerful characters of Jackie, Johnser, Tara and Blue to name but a few. For any of you interested in Irish life - this is a must read. I could not put this book down and will most certainly buy the follow up "Two Birds, one stoned"

Good enthralling read 7 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Basically if you like books where you get interested in the Characters, then this is the book for you. You actually care what happens to Johnser and Jackie. The language is a bit graphic, but this adds to the book.

Extremely Likeable 2 Sep 2005
By Sweary
Format:Paperback
I finished this book in one sitting, so yeah, first off it's an easy read. But a very compelling one, all the same. The dialogue is wonderful, with no punches pulled in the interests of decency, all the more appealing in a contemporary story. And both main characters are very likeable; you do care what happens to them, even when they do things that are deplorable, silly, or self-piteous.
The only drawback to the story is the ridiculous treatment of the "drug-dealing" thread. A little more research here would have made the world of difference. When one character begins to deal, he does so in nightclubs (fair enough) and he specialises in... every drug (whoever heard of a junkie -heroin- scoring in a club???) There's also a bit too much preaching on the "misery" of drug use, something not every drug user experiences! Otherwise, the book has an authentic feel to it.
I look forward to reading the sequel.
