Product Description

Two more stories from the classic children's storytelling programme - now backed up with state of the art CGI set and animations of story passages. 'Muddle Earth' is narrated by John Sessions and tells the tale of a young lad and his dog who take a trip to Muddle Earth to meet a wizard and a mean, but short, ogre. 'The Magician of Samarkand' is narrated by Ben Kingsley and tells the tale of a shoemaker's daughter under the spell of a magician whose advances she has spurned.

Synopsis

Family favourite Jackanory returns home with a double bill of classic episodes. Includes ‘'Muddle Earth’ and ‘The Magician Of Samakand’'.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget 'Muddle Earth!' 1 Jun 2009
Sir Ben Kingsley's narration of 'The Magician of Samarkand' is by far the best Jakanory adaptation I've seen since Rick Mayall reading 'Charlie's Magic Medicine' when I was a boy.

Watching this programme one Sunday afternoon left me completely hooked and compelled me to buy the book. (A 'Children's' book which I now rank alongside 'The Chronicles of Narnia' as one of the best ever written.) So although the adaptation cut out a great deal of the story in order to save time, I would definitely recommend this DVD as an 'Introduction' to the novel. I, e, a great way for parents to inspire their children to read before going out to buy a second copy for themselves :-)
