This aside it is a well constructed documentary that gives you background into London at the time, the victims and the locations and the potential suspects. For anyone who has read books on the subject, there is nothing startling there , but none the less an overall nicely presented documentary, with all the keys facts - and if someone doesn't know anything about Jack the Ripper, they will certainly be up to speed by the end of it.
Conclusion - forget the amateurish feel - concentrate on the substance of it and you won't be disappointed.
The low price made my buy it though, and it proved well worth the money.
Despite a somewhat annoying narrator, the documentary offers an extensive look on the case, starting with the victims and moving on to the suspects, along with a wide array of possible conspiracies and explanations mixed with some information about London during the Victorian era. The suspects are presented side by side, not "favoring" anyone in particular, as are the various theories.
The producers have done a good job mixing images of present day Whitechapel with pictures from the Victorian age.
The film is a good introduction to Jack the Ripper but doesn't offer anything new to those of you who have read several books and watched other documentaries on the subject. It is, however, a very well done documentary and for the measly sum of £5.99 it should be an definite buy even if you "know it all".
