THIS BOOK REVEALS HOW THE LARGEST AND MOST DETAILED INVESTIGATION ON THE SUBJECT EVER TO BE UNDERTAKEN LED THE AUTHOR THROUGH THE SMOKESCREEN OF AN OFFICIAL COVER-UP, VIA THE ROYALS AND THE MASONS, TO THE TRUE PROVENCE OF THE DIARY, JACK THE RIPPER'S WATCH AND, ULTIMELY, HIS IDENTITY. AS WELL AS PROVIDING THE LONG AWAITED SOLUTION TO ONE OF THE MOST ENDURING MYSTERIES IN THE HISTORY OF CRIME, THIS IS ALSO THE STORY OF THE MAN AT IT'S CENTRE, JAMES MAYBRICK| HOW HE DIED, HOW HIS WIFE WAS FALSELY IMPRISONED FOR HIS MURDER AND WHO THE REAL MURDERER OF JACK THE RIPPER WAS. THIS SAME FACINATING STORY DRAWS IN TOW PEOPLE STILL ALIVE TODAY - ONE ILLEGITIMATELY DESCENDED FROM JAMES MAYBRICK; THE OTHER FROM HIS WIFE, FLORENCE - WHO UNTIL NOW, DESPITE THE POTENTIAL FINACIAL REWARD, HAVE BATTLED TO CONCEAL THE TRUTH AND PROTECT THEIR FAMILIES. Review

"...one of the most important and definitive books on Jack the Ripper that has ever been written." (Colin Wilson )

From the Back Cover

The Diary of Jack the Ripper, which came to light in 1991, revealed the identity of the world's most famous serial killer as Liverpool cotton merchant James Maybrick. the diary was widely dismissed as a hoax at the time, yet it has never been proven to be a forgery.

This, argues Paul Feldman, is because the diary is genuine.

jack the Ripper - The Final Chapter provides indeniable proof that the haunting diary was indeed written by james Maybrick, the man who committed the gruesome Whitechapel murders and came to be known as Jack the Ripper.

The Final Chapter tells how the largest. most expensive Ripper investigation ever undertaken led author Paul Feldman through the smoke screen of an official cover-up, via the royals and the Masons, to establish the true provenance of the sinister diary and they mysterious 'Ripper Watch', leaving no doubt that James Maybrick was Jack the Ripper.

In his balanced account, Feldman uncovers crucial evidence about the murders and presents sensational revelations from the Ripper's living descendants.

Many books claim to have uncovered the true identity of Jack the Ripper, but Feldman's afrument remains overwhelmingly convincing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very convincing and thought provoking 12 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Having been an avid Jack the Ripper fan for many years I was given this book as a Christrmas gift. The person who gave me the book was trying to show me that the myth that surrounded Jack the Ripper had in fact heightened the story and that a pausible explanation to his identity was available. Admittedly the myth of foggy streets and mysterious figures in London in the late 1880s did give the story a mystical feel. I started to read the book with a very closed mind but the style of writing and the authors enthusiasm for this subject carried me along. I was intriged to finish the book and the facts and explanations that the author gives for the identity of J T R are hard not to acknowledge. James Maybrick was little known to me before I read this book and yet everything in his life and times and dates can correspondend with that of J T R. I found the book very entertaining and thought provoking. It must be pointed out that this book would not suit those of you out there who want a history of the Ripper Crimes as this book does not go into these crimes in detail it mentions them but gets on to the task at hand of identifying the Ripper. Very enjoyable Read.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
I'm astonished at how involved Mr Feldman becomes in this book. In my opinion he's guilty of the cardinal sin of any researcher in that he's crossed that line of objectivity, resulting in some highly speculative conclusions. Mr Feldmans ability to massage the facts to fit the fiction is nothing short of breathtaking. However, the exhaustive research has thrown up some subjects worthy of continued debate despite the spin that Mr Feldman has put on them. I also welcome the renewal of interest in the Florence Maybrick case, and am amused by the irony that Mr Feldman has condemned James Maybrick as JTR upon contradictory scientific evidence and imaginative speculation in the same manner that Mrs Maybrick herself was condemned. A flawed but interesting book. If approached objectively, then it's certainly worth a read.

3.0 out of 5 stars I'm Still Not Convinced 3 Feb 2000
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
Although I think the book has enough fact to keep the reader amazed and enough speculation to keep you interested, I feel that the book projects a feeling that Paul and his team are convinced that they have solved the mystery and found the true ripper and no other persons opinion on the subject can ever or will ever matter (can they now shut the case based on this book?) No!

All credit does though go to the team for the amount of time and effort put into their research of the Maybrick Family, but most of the content wouldn't convince anybody ...

2.0 out of 5 stars Tortuous read. 13 Feb 2008
Format:Paperback
Of the many books I have read on this subject, this has to be the least informed and the most pretentiously biased. The author takes great pains to rubbish the efforts of other authors (Stephen Knight for one)and spends most of the book in trying to promote his own misguided theories. The result is a hotch-potch of ill-conceived ideas in which the author's voice rises above the logic of the subject and tries to bully the reader into submission. He misses the opportunity of expanding on some of his own ideas by allowing himself too much time to be emotive about other writer's research - he should have followed the leads rather than the decoys methinks. there are far better ways of spending an evening than reading this.

4.0 out of 5 stars I'm A Believer 2 Jun 2004
Format:Hardcover
While I'm not sure if I like the writing style, I find the facts interesting and hard to argue with. I believe the link, and it is a better theory than the Royals one. Then again, I thought it was James Kelly, after reading another Jack The Ripper book, so if someone wants to they can make you believe anything. Make your own mind up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, Convincing Page-Turner 24 Feb 2011
By DR
Format:Paperback
I have no vested interests in who Jack the Ripper was. I don't particularly care either way. But after reading this book, I feel that there is a very high degree of probability that James Maybrick truly was the killer. The book embodies a great deal of painstaking research and presents a very cogent case. I found the narrative read like a detective novel; I could barely put the book down and read it all in two or three sittings. I am now re-reading it. There are numerous details and facts presented in this book (perhaps most astonishingly of all the watch of James Maybrick) which add up to a weight of evidence that makes it seem extremely unlikely that the diary of Jack the Ripper is a forgery and that Maybrick was not in fact Jack the Ripper. I personally am now convinced that Maybrick truly was the Ripper. I think Paul Feldman and his team deserve to be praised for the hard work they have put into investigating the Maybrick family (and their living descendants). As a literary analyst myself, I can only take my hat off to the careful research which has been carried out to provide us with this book. Some people seem to feel the book is not well written. That is certainly not my impression. I have found it utterly engrossing and intriguing. I recommend it to anyone who has an open mind and wishes to learn more about Jack the Ripper. Even if you don't end up believing that Maybrick was Jack the Ripper, I think (if you are interested in crime stories in general and Jack the Ripper in particular) you will enjoy the detective hunt for clues and connections that this study pursues. I give it five stars without hesitation. Excellent book.
