Product Description

Product Description

More than 100 years after the last of these brutal acts of violence the mysteries that surrounded the events remain. The number of murders committed by the killer is still unconfirmed and, most poignantly, the identity of the killer is as yet undiscovered. In "Jack the Ripper: The Casebook" the reader is taken on a tour of the underworld of Victorian London, traveling into the backstreets of Whitechapel and Spitalfields where the murders took place. One by one the murder victims are revealed, their similarities discussed and the scenes and circumstances of their murders investigated. The methods of the killer are explored, along with a summary of the evidence, and accounts by witnesses who caught a glimpse of this notorious and immensely elusive figure. A thorough analysis of the likely suspects for the identity of "Jack the Ripper" is undergone, including some figures that have only recently been implicated in the murders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow!! A Stunning work for anyone interested in the "Autumn of Terror", 8 Nov 2008
Richard Jones has created an instant masterpiece in this fantastic book, in fact, it is more than a book!

The front cover has a magnetic holder which keeps the book closed after reading, you wont close the book much, so it's a waste of time, but a really nice touch, and makes the book stand out on the shelf.

As the story unfolds during "The Autumn of Terror" we are treated to a series of dissertations on subjects from the Victims, to suspects, police officials and press reports. No leaf is left unturned, but the best is yet to come. During the dissertations we are told to look in the attached wallets which include facsimilie copies of ripper letters, letters between officials, newspaper reports, and even a poster with a warning to the occupier!

It was a real pleasure to read, and re-read, and read again, and this will take pride of place on the book case, at least until I read it again!! Well recommended!

This book is the ideal present for so many people and I have recommended it to all my friends. It will appeal to a wide range of readers, to avid mystery fans, to history buffs and to all Ripperologists. It sets the murders into a social context and details all the suspects. Read it and make your choice -- who do think was Jack the Ripper?

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 3 April 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, from cover to cover; and I especially loved the facsimile documents enclosed. Although, like many Ripper interested people, I have read quite a few books on the subject and find some rather repetitive, this book gives the facts cleanly and clearly, and outlines the main suspects, giving the reasons why they were suspected in 1888. This allows the reader to reach their own conclusion. The book also contains new material and pictures not seen before, so making it a perfect addition to any Ripper collection
