Product Description

Product Description

Jill loves her little brother, Jack. She understands what he's thinking, which is just as well because Jack won't speak.

There are plenty of things Jill doesn't understand though. Why is her mum dumping her and Jack in the country? Why did her dad leave and she's not allowed to talk about it? She doesn't know why her aunt and uncle give her and Jack strange looks, or why they're being talked about in the village.

With a local country boy Jill decides to find out what's going on and uncovers the appalling truth behind brother Jack's silence.

A mini masterpiece 28 Feb 2011
By CathyE
Format:Paperback
Jill's voice is convincing and carries every narrative detail - the emotions of caring for a "mute" younger sibling and the crush she has on an older boy - add to the tension of the book and its superb plot. From dark London to a dusty hot summer in the West Country. A much needed quick read for any fan of this author.

Jack and Jill 1 Mar 2011
Format:Paperback
A lovely book. Characters warm and endearing and story has suspense that grabs you to rush to the end. Really enjoying reading short stories - perfect travel fooder! Different style from some of Lucy's other work as has more sensitivity, tackling a tricky subject matter. V enjoyable.

I loved this book. As it is a Quick Read, it took me very little time to read it but I enjoyed every single minute of it. It is a beautifully-written book, every single detail is absolutely spot on. It starts with Jack and Jill, brother and sister, being driven to their uncle and aunt's house in the countryside. It is steaming hot. The situation is tense. Jill is the voice of the book and everything is described through her eyes as her brother Jack doesn't speak. We don't know why he doesn't speak - neither does Jill - but as the book unfolds we (and Jill) discover that something quite sinister is going on. It is truly chilling. Most readers will probably have got there before Jill but that makes no difference. I was glued to it and enjoyed every page. I have read the author's other books and enjoyed them but this is something else. This is a mini-masterpiece. More of this style please...
