Product Description

In a unique retelling to the classic fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk,” Piers Anthony and J.R. Rain take you back to the magical land beyond the clouds. Back to the land of the Giants. Back to adventure and sorcery and awe-inspiring wonder.

In the real world, Jack works for a jerk. Luckily, the pretty receptionist makes his days bearable. But when Jack discovers he’s been fired, his simple life crumbles around him; that is, until he comes across the magic beans.

Now with a giant beanstalk growing outside his downtown New York apartment, Jack has a choice to make: follow the beanstalk up or pretend it’s not there. After all, he does seem to be the only one who can see it. Moreover, the beanstalk almost beckons him...

Putting aside his fears, Jack climbs out from his apartment window and onto the beanstalk, where climbs up and up and up...finally emerging through the clouds and into a land of dreams. Literally.

Almost immediately, he’s confronted by a hungry giant...and someone else. Someone he never expected. Someone he had long admired from afar. Now a team, Jack and Harriet seek answers to their dilemma, and find themselves in the middle of an age-old war for the land beyond the clouds. Battling evil kings, gods and giants, Jack is about to discover that he's much more than he ever dreamed...and that he may never return home again. And that’s just fine by him.

After all, the land beyond the clouds isn't that bad. Of course, he just has to survive first...

5.0 out of 5 stars An old fairy tale with a lot of twists 5 Sep 2014
By David Stong - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Two great writers together producing a vastly entertaining work with humor, a bit of insight to human and giant nature, and an old fairy tale redone with a twist. This is a work with no real sturm, drang, or agnst - just a fun read for a rainy afternoon. I would recommend this book if you are looking for a fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A significantly different take 8 July 2014
By Scott Ryan - Published on

Unexpected twists and turns, and you cannot depend on the fairy tale to guess what will happen. A triumph of mind over matter. I did like both JatJ and Dolfin Tayle.

3.0 out of 5 stars "Jack and the Beanstalk" the sexy version 6 Aug 2014
By john gonzales - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
You need this book when you become tired of the epic sagas out there. A novel spin to an old classic. I didn't quite get what happened to the chicken in the end, expected more about her since she is the only character pictured on the book cover. I'm glad I took the time to read this one and I'm sure you will too.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting play on a fairy tale 7 July 2014

This book details an interesting view about the supernatural among us. Interesting, but not as strong as J. R. Rain usually writes.

5.0 out of 5 stars The beanstalk gets a makeover 20 Sep 2014
By Sam G - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was obsessed with Xanth, so Piers Anthony is an automatic selling point for me - I'll happily read anything his name is on. Jack and the Giants, though, functions as my simultaneous introduction to J.R. Rain. If this is any indication of him as an author, I'm very intrigued.

I read tons of fantasy on Kindle, and after all the amateur ones it's actually surprising to be reminded of what fantasy writing mastery looks like - even with this contemporary setting. This is it. The classic tale of Jack and the beanstalk gets a sexy new makeover here, with thrills, action, humor, and a modern setting. Too cute. Jack and Harriet are divine together - this book just oozes charm and made me smile with every turn of the page.
