from the HOPSCOTCH ADVENTURES series of books!

From the back cover:-

'Jack's village is in trouble.
The giant Cormoran keeps stealing the villagers' animals and they have hardly any food left.
But how is one boy going to stop a mighty giant?'

32 high quality shiny pages in the popular 2-page spread format.
Numbered pages with clear, easy-to-follow text, enhanced in places, for effect! Illustrated throughout, this story is further enhanced by relevant facial expressions.

Example of text:-

'Once upon a time in Cornwall, there was a huge and horrible giant.
His name was Cormoran, and he lived up on Saint Michael's Mount.
Every now and again, Cormoran would come down to the village
and steal the people's cows
and their hogs, their sheep
and their dogs.
Soon, they had hardly any food left.

One of the villages was a brave boy called Jack.
"I'm going to sort that giant out!" said Jack to his friends.
That night, when everyone was sleeping, Jack crept out of the house....'

And armed with a spade and a horn, he made his way up the hill and began the lonely task of eliminating the giant.....When he returns armed with a head in one hand and a treasure chest in another, it is deemed quite a successful trip and Jack is then known as `Jack the Giant-Killer'!

WARNING - does contain a bit of violence, in the form of whacking the giant on the head with the spade!

Lots of action packed into 31 pages!

'HOPSCOTCH has been specially designed to fit the requirements of the National Literacy Strategy. It offers real books by top authors and illustrators for children developing their reading skills.'

There are a number of `HOPSCOTCH' stories to choose from and these are listed on the very last page.

Both my 5 year old and 3 year old love this book. The illustrations are fantastic too, lots of detail and expression. We have also enjoyed others in this series. At the moment we read them to our 5 year old but I don't think it'll be long before he can manage them himself.
