Book Description

Hi! Hi there! How lovely to smell your friendly smell again, snff snortle, snff snff, you smell happy too!
Happy dog! Happy happy happy, meeting friends again! Can I smell your...
Oh. Sorry.
I am JACK, old fashioned yellow Labrador who is Very Thick.
I have a Great Big apedog Packleader called Tom Stopes and also Dad, and a Fierce apedog Pack Lady called Charlotte and also Mum, and I have three ape-puppies in my Pack called Terri and Pete and Mikey. Apedogs go on their back legs all the time and they have no tails (Poor Apedogs). I love everyone in my Pack.
Also there are funny-looking dogs with hidden claws.* They say it is their Pride, not my Pack. They say I am a Big Stupid. I think this is good, maybe.
{*Cats, CATS, CATS! Obviously it is our Pride and Our Lair because We are the Cats and We are in charge. Signed, The Cats ^-^}

Jack has his own website at, where you can find out about his other adventures, and his very own author, Patricia Finney.

I'm actually the writer of this book so of course I love it - but I really think that this is the best of the I, Jack series. I'm planning a new cover that will show up better for Kindle and I'm hoping to do an illustrated physical edition in due course when it's sold enough copies.
A sad thing happens at the beginning of the book - but that turns out to be a good thing as well because when Jack greedily eats slug-bait and accidentally visits the Happy Place, he has a friend to show him the way. There he meets an ancestor of his called Old Chap - a golden Labrador just like him who used to belong to an American volunteer in the RAF during the Second World War. And that means that Jack and Old Chap can fulfill two very important missions that make a happy ending for everybody.
This is a book which will comfort anyone of any age who has ever lost a pet. After all - if dogs and cats have Near Death Experiences they couldn't tell us about them, could they?

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely delightful! 20 Sept. 2014

Written in Doglish, from Jack-the-dog's point of view, this is a funny/sad/romantic/triumphant story.

I don't want to give anything away, so I won't go into great detail. There are historical flashbacks. There is heroism; there is loss. Love triumphs--human love, as well as love between dogs and humans. It's not syrupy, it's a sweet, gentle story (with snide commentary from the Cats.) (Read the book to find out why "Cats" is capitalized.)

Buy this for your favorite dog lover--they'll thank you for it!

I love Jack the very thick labrador. He's so doggy.

This book is a worthy addition to the Jack canon.
