5.0 out of 5 stars Joy of discovery 1 Jun 2010
Format:Paperback
Chester and Ruby (6), my grandchildren, read this book when they had come back from a visit to the seaside with some treasures. They were very excited to discover through looking in this book that they had found some whelk eggs and a slipper limpet. I'm sure they will want to read this book over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Little Treasure 31 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
This is one of those childrens books that you still want to keep even when your children are grown-up, a book that will have a special place on the bookshelf. The photographs with the children superimposed on them give the book a unique feel and the wonderful prose is made to read out loud to the children, the book has a lovely feel to it, real book lovers will adore this little treasure, children and adults alike. Words, pictures and drawings all combine to make the perfect book for all who love the seaside and one for a mermaids undersea library!!! Violet Carnell

5.0 out of 5 stars Beginner's beachcombing 23 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
A unique children's book which will appeal to a wide age range. The illustrations are both charming and informative. The text too encourages children to engage and ask questions. My three year old wanted to read it over and over again and can't wait to look for the items on the back pages when we next visit her grandparents at the seaside. As a former infant school teacher, I would have loved to use this book as an intoduction to a seaside topic with my class. There's tons of inspiration for beach related activities. From creating your own 'Jack and Boo' style pictures with your own holiday snaps; researching some of the more unusual treasures as part of a science topic; writing descriptions of seaside sights, sounds and smells in Phil's lyrical style; to making beachy keepsakes with your own collections. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars A splash of summer 23 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
My children received this book as a present and were enchanted by the stimulating vocabulary and beautiful pictures. They particularly enjoyed the beach spotter guide and can't wait for a trip to the beach to discover the treasures of the sea for themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars more than just a story. 18 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a beautiful book to share with your children. The photograhic illustration means you can share all those familiar scenes together, if you do not live by the sea, it gives children a real insight. Wherever you may live, the textures and colours of our coast come to life. My boys loved the story, and are excited about going to explore for themselves. The difference between this book, and the many others on the market?, it does not patronise children, the illustration is colourful and bold on top of true scenes, and the descriptive language really spurs the imagination.

This is a lovely book. It'll bring back memories of endless Summers for adults and children will love it even more. The original design and illustrations on photographs is very unique and a welcome change in the children's book market. The added bonus of a Beach Spotters Guide, will be a great activity for the whole family. Roll on Summer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect holiday reading 23 July 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I think this book is wonderful. The simple story of two children's day out on the beach, the games they play and the treasures they find on the beach, balanced with multimedia illustrations. At the back of the book there is a lovely "spotters guide", which can be used to help young beachcombers to identify their own treasures. Highly recommended for 3-7 year olds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real treasure 12 April 2011
Format:Paperback
We picked this up for our two and four year old girls and it has become a firm favourite. Definitely a must have if you are planning a trip to the beach. The pictures are bright and engaging and the story is perfect for bedtime. A highlight for us has been finding all the seaside things mentioned in the story- we now have a house full of hag stones but are still searching for a mermaid's purse.
