A fantastic car stereo, very few stereos at this price point come with DAB, aux, usb, bluetooth... The sound on this unit - after using it for a week is truly wonderful. I have 20 Watt speakers and this unit gives 50 W/channel and let me tell you; beyond volume level 30, it becomes too loud to bear. At very high volume there is distortion but this is expected with stock speakers of a seat Ibiza of 03.
DAB radio plays beautifully. I had the whole unit; DAB, ariel and bluetooth professionally installed at uplands (in car audio specialist chain in UK). Install and unit cost in all £320. This included adaptor and internal glass ariel.
Bluetooth feature is amazing. I highly recommend this optional add on. Once the mobile is paired. It detects my mobile as soon as I insert the key in ignition. It will stream music off any bluetooth compatible phone, the whole process requires no user input. All automated and very smooth. The interface and the tech behind the radio is rock solid and very user friendly. No screen delay and button response is razor sharp (except with bluetooth but this is uniform with all units...bluetooth = wireless delay). Offers a range of different colours too many to list. I prefer a vibrant blue to match my seat fabric covers...it also offers day and night colours however I couldn't quite work out how to activate it. I perhaps need more time with the manual.
Now the not so good things....
The unit is not ergonomically designed, the only commendable aspect is the volume turn knob is pretty well made. Spending £200 quid on the unit; I would expect switch gear to be more 'upmarket', it still gives a vibe of cheapness and economy plastics you get with entry level stereos.
There is no dedicated preset button, you have to select source and use the turn knob to select station.

Equaliser: the available "sound types" range from "flat" to "dynamic", 'vocal' is good for the chart hits. The 'bass heavy sound' effect is just unbearable no matter what you listen to. The rest are too treble heavy. Personally, if you really want to enjoy music the way it's meant to be listened I suggest choose 'flat'. Or go for user defined.
Summary: Despite bad ergonomics, and the other mentioned drawbacks. This product is formidable number from JVC. It does what it says really well. A fantastic deal if you can get it for <£170 (cough cough halfords). But to truly enjoy all aspect of this unit I suggest the purchase of a bluetooth and a DAB ariel add on, and a professional fitting. A worthy competitor overall.
