There were a number of factors I looked at when I was looking for a new camera. These were :
1. video quality (lens quality)
2. size & weight
3. zoom
4. still photo quality
After using this camera for a while now I would suggest that it scores highly on all 4 categories although there are still some areas that I dont like about it.
Firstly the good points :
Video quality is good and the zoom is smooth and powerful. When displayed on an HDTV, even using s-video leads rather than mini-HDMI, playback is very good. I've been surprised at how good still photos are, especially when 'picking them off' video. Its very light and small enough to keep in a pocket.
The issues I have found are :
Its smallness is actually an issue. Its difficult to hold steady when zooming and even pushing the 'record on/off' button causes a judder. The hand strap provided is actually too thin and doesnt give a good tight grip which also causes some shakiness.
Probably my biggest complaint is that it doesnt come with any fade in/out facility. I would expect this on any video camera and didnt even bother checking for it. My old camera also had editing facilities to add titles and the like. No such facility exists on this camera.
The only functional issue I have is that it doesnt perform well in low light and has no nightime mode.
Generally an ok camera that is good quality for its price but buy it with the knowledge that there are some issues.

A good camera for the price, only used it for 20 minutes filming so far but the results are good. The full HD is not as good as I would have hoped but haven't been able to test properly on an HD TV as the camera is only supplied with a component lead. I have also only tested indoor so the picture is slightly grainy anyway due to lower light conditions.
Touch screen is really easy to use, the zoom button is a bit stiff and can jog the image when zooming.
HD video also takes up a fair bit of memory, buy big cards if you want to film everything in full HD. There are other HD modes which reduce the quality slightly but save on space, and also standard definition modes which I haven't used yet.
Overall a good all round camera and excellent value.
