Manufacturer's Description

The Everio GZ-HM300SEK is an elegant, light and easy- to- use Full High definition Dual SD Memory camcorder. However because it's easy to use doesn't mean there are any less features to maximise your recording and playback enjoyment. A key feature of the GZ-HM300SEK is the Dual SD card slots. You can insert up to two 32GB cards at the same time. When one recording media card fills up during recording, it automatically switches to the second media card and resumes recording. Low light performance during recording is one of the key factors for quality video. Brighten up every moment with Everio’s new Super LoLux technology. This ensures superior sensitivity to low light; an essential feature when it comes to recording indoors or in dark situations.Clearer images with precise colours even in low light have never been clearer. Another great addition to the Everio 2010 range is it's new anti-shake performance. A new technology called Advanced Image Stabiliser has to be seen to be believed.!! By expanding the effective area at wide angle to 4 times that of previous models, the new GZ-HM300SEK delivers powerful compensation for camera shake. Effortless creativity and smart usability are the hallmarks of the new Everio 2010 range. Various unique shooting functions give the new range a real " professional" feel. Features such as Time-lapse recording, which records one frame at a time at set intervals (1sec-80sec), allowing you to watch an hour long movement in just a short amount of time when played back. Great for watching the sun set over a long period or the changes in scenery. And don't forget the new GZ-HM300SEK comes with a "upload" button on the main body, allowing immediate upload of files to You Tube. Laser Touch Operation, allows zooming and recording using either the laser touch or standard zoom lever and rec button further enhancing its effortless operation reputation. Technically Perfect, Perfectly Simple.

Bought this to replace my tape cassette recording JVC camcorder as I was finding it a bit too bulky to trail around and to set up and transfer the recordings. At the time though it was state of the art and gave me no problems so I was keen to stick with JVC. This JVC Everio HD camera is simply amazing. So small and lightweight with a small but powerful battery which only takes two and a half hours to fully recharge. If you decide to buy a spare JVC branded battery it is almost half the cost of the camera to purchase so I personally would not bother as the shipped battery is more than adequate for most people's needs. Very easy to operate, I never read instructions, and the facility to take two SDHC/SD cards means a potential of 32 gig on board. I do however have three slight niggles one of which is that the lead most people will need i.e. a mini HDMI to a standard HDMI is not included. They are inexpensive to buy but it would be better if they were included. Secondly no cord included to secure the lens cap to the camera which means it is only a matter of time before I lose it. And finally the position of the record button is not ideal when operating the camera with my sausage fingers. That said this is a fabulous full HD camera and at less than £160 from Amazon it is remarkable value for money. Almost forgot, don't be tempted to buy the leather carrying case from JVC as I bought the exact same one from Amazon £25 cheaper.

For under £[] this camera is a real bargain. It has a few drawbacks, already mentioned in the previous reviews. The record button is a bit awkward if you have larger hands but there is also one on the laser touch screen so its not insurmountable.
Anyone new to HD video should note that you will need to convert the files from .mts (AVCHD) to the mp4 (DVD) format before you can produce a standard def dvd, as the camera ONLY records in High Def format at different quality rates. The stereo sound is very good, and there is minimal noise from the autofocus and zoom which is only noticeable in really quiet surroundings. The zoom is pretty reasonable and the image stabiliser works moderately well for an electronic device, but you still need a reasonably steady hand to avoid excessive shakes at full zoom. The supplied software is OK, but limited so it would be best to have a movie/video program such as Serif Movieplusx5 MoviePlus X5or Sony Vegas Sony Movie Studio HD 10 Platinum Suite (PC). There is quite a bit of free software to convert / join the files and burn them to a dvd but the paid for ones can do it all in one go - much easier.
Using this HD camera and converting the files and writing to a std def dvd will still give you much better quality than std def camcorders in this price bracket, so if you have a fairly high end computer to do all the processing then it makes this camcorder a real bargain, even if you add the cost of the software and SDHC card in. It is last years model (2010) but as far as I can see the changes for this year are mainly cosmetic.
If it hadn't had the awkward rec button and the ridiculous cost of jvc spare batteries (the one supplied should do you OK for about an hours footage if you're anything like me and film in 7 - 10 second bursts) it would have received 5 stars, but for the money its a real bargain. Check out JVC GZ-HM300 on YouTube for samples of the footage. If you looking for a basic point and shoot video camera that gives good results for holidays, Christmas, family gatherings, sports etc it would be hard to better for the price.

Very good camera! 2 Jun 2011
I would recommend this camera to anyone who likes there videos in HD, it shoots in Full HD so the quality is amazing! The 20x optical zoom is also very good along with the A.I.S - Advanced Image Stabilizer which makes the footage less "wobbly" when zooming in or not using a tripod. I wouldn't recommend using the 200x digital zoom as the picture get blurry and grainy. The picture quality is 1920x1080, it would of been better if it was at least 10mp. The supplied battery lasts for about 1hour 20mins and only takes over an hour to fully charge, much better than my old camera which took 3 hours to charge and it only lasts 45 mins. I have been using this camera for the past 2 days and I have not found anything wrong with it, I am very pleased with this purchase!

PS: The package was not damaged or scratched when it arrived and the camera and other accessories where in perfect condition! :)
